That was one of the more stressful games I've seen over the years.

But I'd like to share with you, my online pals, a text I got from my dad after McMichaels' goal to make it 3-2. Perhaps you can draw something from it as we exit this, the most wonderful tournament of the year.

TSN panel referred to a rule stating that a player who clears the puck from the defensive zone and hits the scoreboard would not be assessed a penalty. I don't see how that relates to a camera but it's too late now anyway. The refs really had nowhere to go with that one...not an easy call. I thought it should have been a penalty and I think the game is tainted a bit because of it.

Russia definitely deserved better but they really did it to themselves with those two stupid penalties late in the game. Bad luck on the Thomas goal too. Nine times out of ten, the goalie runs out to clear that.

I'm really happy Canada won and it's awesome that they can return guys like Dryfield and Bysdale next year but let me tell you...that Barret Hayton is garbage. The holding call he took was pure horseshit. He bent over, hugged the stick and dropped like a rock. Disgusting. Then he draws that penalty at the end of the period by being a little bitch and acting like he took an actual punch. That guy should have been sent home to play some holiday golf with phat Phil.

I still don't understand why that backup russian goalie didn't come out to play the puck on that Akil Thomas goal. I've phoned 14 goalie coaches in the past 5 days and all of them were ecstatic to give their $.02. In the end, they were just as perplexed as me.

Good luck to Russia next year. You are a really fine hockey nation. And that Valery Bragin is one heck of a coach who will enter the WJCHoF alongside such eminent notables as Steven J Spott and Jordan Tootoo.

Amazing how many times the Russians just danced our D through the middle and equally amazing how well Hofer played. So many beautiful saves.
