I liked the system in 2002 when each ice hockey federation had to announce their Elite Eight (Or Twelve) by December 2001 for promotional purpose(s).

Also, who is Canada’s GM this time, Chris Prongdongino? Image

Here's my guess for Team Russia. There's a lot of people I'm probably missing so @chrimea, help me out

Ovechkin-Kuznetzov-Kucherov
Tarasenko-KHL-Panarin
Kaprizov-KHL-Svechnikov
Dadonov-KHL-Buchnevich
KHL

Romanov-Sergachev
Provorov-KHL
KHL-KHL
KHL

vasilevsky
shesterkin
varlamov

Wingers and #1 Goalie are obviously pretty amazing players for the most part but C and D...what in the fuck? Who am I missing? There's no way Sergachev is the best D in Russia. And I must be missing guys down the middle too.

Haven't put together my USA roster yet, but even spitballing in my imagination quickly brings me to the conclusion that they are a far better team than Russia. Will the beat them? Doubt it. But on paper they are better for sure.

I'd say Sweden was too. I have no clue who's playing for Germany other than Draisaitl. Marco Sturm?

Okay taking a stab at team canada jeez those forwards are not bad eh:

Huberdeau - McDad - MacK
Marchard - Crosby - Stone
Stamkos - Point - Tavares
O'Reilly - Couturier - Scheifele

Theodore - Hamilton
Nurse - Makar
Rielly - Pietrangelo

Hart
Blackwood

The goaltending is shaky to say the least but if hart returns to form the team looks pretty imposing. Hard for right shot dmen to make the team over the big 3 but maybe Ellis or Ekblad can edge out one of the boys, maybe Chabot makes it on the left over Rielly too idunno.

Right now you gotta go with Price as a goalie after the last playoffs, no? Especially since Hart was so bad last year.

I think they bring Bergeron too, for the shutdown ability even though that doesn't make much sense:

Nathan MacKinnon-Connor McDavid-Mark Stone
Brad Marchand-Sidney Crosby-Sean Couturier
Jonathan Huberdeau-Brayden Point-Steven Stamkos
John Tavares-Patrice Bergeron-Mitch Marner/Mark Scheifele

Shea Theodore-Alex Pietrangelo
Darnell Nurse-Cale Makar
Morgan Rielly/Thomas Chabot-Dougie Hamilton

Price
Kuemper
Blackwood

If Byram has a good year, I'd drop him in on D for Rielly/Chabot.

I'm a little bit confused about two things.

1] Both of you seem to be placing more value on Stamkos than on Bergeron. I suppose this is because of their ages, with the latter being 36. Is that the consideration?

2] Apparently, and this is new to me, the NHL is still planning on an All-star game as well as the Olympics, which seems ridiculous to me. Is this how it was before?

It was in January 1998 when Wayne "The Great One" Gretzky fed Marcus Messier for the game winning backhand roofjob of the National Hockey League's inaugural North America Stars Meet World Stars. : )

Our options on defense make me want to vomit when compared to 1998, 2002, and 2010.

McDavid - Suzuki - Mackinnon
Marchand - Crosby - Bergeron
[LW3] - Point - Stone
[LW4] - O’Reilly - Marner

Makar

Price
