Who the heck is in charge of the music at the World Cup? The intros onto the ice just suck the air out of me.

Re: World Cup is back.
It's too bad the usa decided to go the knuckle dragging route as they can play some good hockey, though I guess if you take away eichel and Matthews and give em Tortorella they don't really have the team to overcome...
I dunno, there's just no interest in this for me.
I miss team Latvia.

Yes. I concur. We need some viscous hits to get people into this.

Good example: Couture could've absolutely just destroyed Hossa on that turnover by Weber but didn't even make contact.

But I don't want anyone getting hurt of course. Not over such a stupid trophy. And why were the Mounties trotting it out? It's not the Canada Cup, for Pete's sakes.

Well, we in the media biz are all looking forward to this ending Thursday. Kudos to team Europe for playing us the toughest. How is Ralph Krueger still not the coach of the Oilers? I don't know.

Re: World Cup is back.
After all this, I think the NHL should capitalize on the marketability of its young stars and give the public what it wants. Make the next All-Star game be a North America vs Europe Young Gun Rendez-vous. The winner of this game determines on which continent (and thus, on which ice dimensions) the next World Cup is to be held.
Other things the NHL should do include:
Other things the NHL should do include:
- Take the gimmick teams out of the World Cup. 8 teams would be fine, but expanding it would generate more international legitimacy.
- Go to the Olympics every 4 year to remind people that hockey still exists.
- Hold a new type of Canada Cup on odd numbered years where the country itself is divided into teams. Put that shit on CBC and make money.
- Maybe do do a United States tournament too? Air it on NBC's Goat Shaving Network? Make money?
- If the NHL is going to have 4 or 5 outdoor games a year, why not have them all on the same day? Hell make every team play outdoors, one select day a year.
- Get teams in Quebec & Seattle. Portland & Milwaukee are also both decent markets if you're into that type of thing.

So important. Nobody in the States knows that this tournament is even happening unless they are already rabid hockey fans. But during the Olympics, people are already paying attention and that's half the battle. If Bettman and co. pull out of Pyeongchang and seriously think that a World Cup tournament by itself is going to cut it, they have got another thing coming.
