This is getting very confusing and I'm not sure what to think anymore. Sometimes it looks like they are in some kind of netherworld/purgatory, sometimes it looks like they are alive but caught in some island surrounded by a mysterious electromagnetic field that causes a spacial-temporal disconnect with the rest of the world, sometimes i've even thought there could be extraterrestials in play.

The Australian girl with the baby and the prisoner chick are kinda cute, though.

Do black boxes transmit in flight signals? I thought they just recorded them.

Not in flight, but appears they could disable every other communication device that Malaysian airways equipped the plane with. If they landed somewhere on land they probably have removed the black box considering these guys don't appear to be your typical Ethiopian asylum seeking hijackers.

To what end though? I fail to see the possible end game here. What's the point in having 200 hostages if you're not going to ransom them or use them for propaganda purposes.

Who knows. Hijackers often have peculiar demands and don't always think through their end games, at least historically. But the more likely scenario, or at least the more speculated scenario, is that the purpose was to acquire the plane or some of its cargo. If anything, one of the theories out there was that the purpose of climbing to 45,000 feet before turning around (which was reported in WSJ I think) may have been to get rid of the passengers from the start.

If you depressurize a cabin the difference between FL350 and FL400 is pretty nil in time of useful consciousness, so I think the altitude climb wasn't for that purpose. My guess is that it was to act as a different aircraft. Flying above the maximum altitude would throw the ATCer for a loop in connecting the dots that the 777 was turning around.

It was probably hijackers that wanted to fly to a specific country for asylum - they ran out of fuel partway through their journey and fell into the ocean. All my Mayday watching has paid off!

The news out of Malaysian press, which has been garbage so you shouldn't trust any of this, is that the pilot was a supporter of the opposition party and was very upset by the sodomy conviction of the opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim. The day before the flight the pilot was in the courtroom or at least outside the courthouse for the conviction. So, the hijacking may have been a protest by the pilot against the Malaysian government and the Malaysian government may know that has been trying to keep it under wraps.

One of the pilots of the Malaysia flight 370. His YouTube page shows his religious affiliation as secular Atheism vs any Islamic anything. I'm not jumping to conclusions, just putting it there.
