the problem with that theory is that the plane would've burned up pretty quickly if it was a lithium fire. it wouldn't have kept flying for another 6 hours.

China has new satellite images of one or more floating objects that could be related to missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, Malaysian Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Saturday.

"The news that I just received is that the Chinese ambassador received satellite image of floating objects in the southern corridor and they will be sending ships to verify," Hishammuddin told a news briefing in Kuala Lumpur.

It was not immediately clear how many possible objects had been spotted, but the minister said one was estimated at 22 metres by 30 metres (72 by 98 feet).

"The Beijing government will announce this in a couple of hours," he added.
The news came as Hishammuddin was in the middle of his daily press briefing on the search for MH370.

"This is coming to me as quick as you are seeing on TV right now," the minister said, adding that he was wrapping up the briefing early in order "to follow this lead".

Wings aren't solid metal, they are largely hollow in the middle and either empty or full of jet fuel (which is lighter than water).

Image

If the engines broke off the wing would be buoyant enough to float although eventually it will get full of water and sink.

The tail would also float until its interior was flooded.

The fuel reservoirs in the wings are designed to prevent and minimize leaks, especially in the event of a crash. Those design features that keep the fuel in could keep the water out. In theory at least. But you are right, it would be amazing if the ocean hadn't torn into the wings by now.

Everyone's looking for debris but if you re-arrange those letters you get brides and maybe more people should be looking for brides.
