It's a start.

I found it interesting that Michelle Rempel went to run in Calgary-Nose Hill in 2015 and wondered whether the CPC was less than enthusiastic about Calgary-Confederation (although on the flip side, you'd think if anyone could win a more 'liberal' riding for the Tories there it would be Rempel).

That wouldn't be much in Rempel's interest, though. A rising politician always wants a nice safe riding to be based out of.

Dean getting busted would be wonderful. Especially when he expects sympathy from his former Tory colleagues and instead gets taken out for a canoe ride.

I don't think that the leader of the Liberal Party should have on his shoulders a woman who is almost young enough to get alcohol poisoning at 24 Sussex.

Agreed, she's far too old.

He's, like, 45, married and has two kids. He should use that image sometime instead of the rich teenager bum look he's got going.

He's trying to rile up the Tory back bench to take up the crusade. So far Harper has kept his stable in line.

This is branching off a discussion in the lounge's social media thread, but anybody wondering why people might take umbrage with Rosie DiManno need search no further than her column this morning defending Rebekah Brooks and phone hacking for the sake of tabloid-style, sensationalism-first journalism.

Of course, it is hard to parse how much her stance is reflective of any actual convictions, as opposed to just taking an extreme/contrarian stance to bait her readership. Shame, because the point she makes about the media perpetuating tabloid tactics in its coverage of Brooks and the misogynist implications thereof is worthwhile, but gets lost amid her usual self-inflationary grandstanding.

The e-mails would be a non-story by themselves. They are dirt being dug up as supplementary material for last week's comments about female judges, which is a real story IMO.

You say they are a non story because you are a sexist paternalist pig who doesn't see the double standard in saying women are mothers first and men are professional leaders.

The emails are a communications failure, particularly the Father's Day one in the context of how the Mother's Day one was written. Reaction is probably over the top, but it's Peter MacKay, so I don't give a fuck.

Widow denied entry to Canada after Husband dies in construction accident.

The Macedonian wife of the Herb Gray Parkway worker killed last week in a tragic construction accident was denied entry into Canada by federal government authorities and blocked from attending her husband’s funeral on Monday in Windsor.

“I don’t know how to say this without using strong language,” said local MP Joe Comartin (NDP Windsor-Tecumseh), who fought unsuccessfully for several days to secure a temporary visa for her.

“It was disgusting the way this family was treated. There was gross insensitivity on the part of the people we were dealing with. That’s not the normal process.”

Mostly what Germz said. They're sexist, but not sexist enough to provoke outrage on their own. Nobody would have mentioned them if not for his other comments.

Also worth noting, as TC alluded to, that MacKay probably didn't write those emails.

Sexism, by a high profile member of the executive and legislative, who is a possible candidate to be the leader of said executive in a few years, in a government known for taking backwards positions on social issues, after said high profile member of the executive made sexist remarks just last week, is a story.
