When all was said and done with those movies I wish they would have just left it as the first movie.

Exactly how I feel about the Alien and Predator franchises.

Aliens was great. Then they should have stopped.

Aliens is my favorite in the Alien series. Nothing against the first movie, it's an absolute classic.

And I can't fucking understand that. Why!? Alien was one of the few near perfect horror movies of our time. And then you turn to Aliens, which is a glorified action movie set in space with some suspense built into it. And most of that suspense gets white-washed with the groan-worthy bull-shit action lines that come along with virtually every action movie of the 80s (e.g. Robocop, Terminator 2, Predator, Running Man, etc.) As its own movie, Aliens would be great. As the follow-up to Alien, it's garbage.

See, but you gotta treat the two as distinct films. Aliens is an action movie by intent, whereas the first is a suspense horror flick by intent. James Cameron was doing James Cameron.*

*The first is a much better film.

I typed up a paragraph similar to this, then when my screaming 2 year old decided to throw a fit I accidentally closed the window. But this was essentially my point. 7 years had passed between the two, so you can honestly treat them as independent films in a lot of ways, so the genre change isn't a huge deal. The switch to action movie never takes away how fucking good the first one is (see the new Ghostbusters movie).

And to Jester's final statement, I agree. First one is a better film. I just said the second one is my favorite. It's like how I think Sean Connery is the best James Bond, but he isn't my favorite.

Has anyone ever successfully picked up a dead/abandoned property? I've got my eyes on three pieces in particular, and I found through a bit of research that the current owner is a deadbeat with a history.

Is it a foreclosure/short sale situation, or does the actual owner still have "ownership"? If the former, I looked into it a bit because we considered buying a short sale house when we were looking a few years back, and it can either be very easy or very hard depending on what attitude/posture the bank adopts towards the property. This is not a helpful answer, I realize, but apparently it is somewhat unpredictable.

In related news, doing a walkthrough (we did two) of a short sale that is a short sale due to a combination of divorce and bad (second) mortgage decisions with small children living there is ... fucking awkward/awful.

You're a cold man.

We ended up passing, it was a bit more house than we/I wanted to deal with both due to mortgage and it had a pool ... which would have been a fucking nightmare with two small children.

They're not being foreclosed on yet. But I don't want it to get to that point either. The properties are just not being maintained, and there's no one residing at any of them. Last month, I saw the utilities company come by one of his properties, and shut off the water/electric/gas if that's any indication.

Prometheus suffered due to being a different movie than what people expected/wanted.

As a fan of the series though, I really enjoyed it. I went into it knowing it wasn't going to be an Alien movie. In fact, the only thing that really annoyed me about it was the little hints toward Alien, like the little creature at the end. I wish they had just kept it in the same universe but focused on the Engineers.

Yeah, I am curious about the script revisions. Seems entirely possible they started with something that was far more in line with the other movies, and then Ridley Scott said fuck that I want to do something different and the result was Prometheus. I enjoyed it as well, but it is a much more serious/intellectual film than I think most folks wanted/expected. So, you end up with the kind of mixed legacy it has.

I think this is going to be in the rotation for my wife and I soon. We just finished Ozark (good), and need something else to move on to. Granted, between kids and lecture writing, I will have barely any free time for the next three months.

Handmaids tale is the GOP dream for America. Great show though but can definitely be hard to watch a lot in one sitting due to the dread it brings on.

RP I agree about Taboo, really awesome and unique show. A lot of Game of Thrones side actors in it, makes me wonder if casting director worked on GOT too.

I mean, literally every person in Britain that has a passing interest in acting has shown up in GoT. They're also running out of musicians.

After the events of the past couple of weeks, hell maybe more I may have a hard time watch Man In the High Castle now. May be a hard watch now.

Creepier IMO. V for Vendetta is still fairly dystopian whereas Handmaid's Tale is basically what would happen if a slightly more hard-line version of the Mike Pence wing of the Republican Party gained control of the country.

V for Vandetta is pretty light-hearted by comparison, something better suited for a PG-13 graphic novel, IMO. Handmaid's Tale is the stuff of nightmares. And I'm only through two episodes.

Like a music Christmas today, new albums from QOTSA and War on Drugs. Also not normally into them that much, but the new Trivium song has a couple of excellent riffs.

so I am pretty much ready to throw my laptop out of my car going down the highway.
I cannot get ESPN to read that adobe flash is on my computer. I joined a football league and went to do a mock and it says my adobe isn't up to date in either IE or chrome. when it is because I play online games using updated flash program.
I really hate to use a phone but I may have to.

Yeah, adobe flash is crap and I can't believe some sites still require it. Best thing is probably to just go to your system, uninstall it full, restart your Laptop, then go to the site that wants it and click on the link it provides, installing from there.

Wonder Woman was in fact on par with Nolan's Batman movies.

Great job, DC.

Texas only recently stopped drowning, the west coast is on fire, there is political violence, the threat of nuclear war, the caribbean is currently being ripped apart by a hurricane and Florida will probably soon follow. Stay safe my american friends. Shit is fucked up.

Yea, there's a good chance a shit-load of cool people are going to be killed off by some really twisted dudes. But the real bitch of it's going to be once Pence takes over, and goes on preaching about how it was the rapture that came for us "sinners".

I thought it was decent. The Iron Fist continues on as one of the worst, but three out of four isn't bad. (Say what you will, but the first half of Luke Cage [season one] was good.)

On the bright side, once Pence is in charge we'll really start electrocuting some queers.

yeah he got on my nerves as the series went on. I know some don't like Cage. But I don't mind him. Daredevil was the best IMO
