They should probably move that hand a little closer to midnight on the Doomsday Clock.

When all was said and done with those movies I wish they would have just left it as the first movie.

Exactly how I feel about the Alien and Predator franchises.

Aliens was great. Then they should have stopped.

Aliens is my favorite in the Alien series. Nothing against the first movie, it's an absolute classic.

And I can't fucking understand that. Why!? Alien was one of the few near perfect horror movies of our time. And then you turn to Aliens, which is a glorified action movie set in space with some suspense built into it. And most of that suspense gets white-washed with the groan-worthy bull-shit action lines that come along with virtually every action movie of the 80s (e.g. Robocop, Terminator 2, Predator, Running Man, etc.) As its own movie, Aliens would be great. As the follow-up to Alien, it's garbage.

See, but you gotta treat the two as distinct films. Aliens is an action movie by intent, whereas the first is a suspense horror flick by intent. James Cameron was doing James Cameron.*

*The first is a much better film.

I typed up a paragraph similar to this, then when my screaming 2 year old decided to throw a fit I accidentally closed the window. But this was essentially my point. 7 years had passed between the two, so you can honestly treat them as independent films in a lot of ways, so the genre change isn't a huge deal. The switch to action movie never takes away how fucking good the first one is (see the new Ghostbusters movie).

And to Jester's final statement, I agree. First one is a better film. I just said the second one is my favorite. It's like how I think Sean Connery is the best James Bond, but he isn't my favorite.

Has anyone ever successfully picked up a dead/abandoned property? I've got my eyes on three pieces in particular, and I found through a bit of research that the current owner is a deadbeat with a history.

Is it a foreclosure/short sale situation, or does the actual owner still have "ownership"? If the former, I looked into it a bit because we considered buying a short sale house when we were looking a few years back, and it can either be very easy or very hard depending on what attitude/posture the bank adopts towards the property. This is not a helpful answer, I realize, but apparently it is somewhat unpredictable.

In related news, doing a walkthrough (we did two) of a short sale that is a short sale due to a combination of divorce and bad (second) mortgage decisions with small children living there is ... fucking awkward/awful.

But, ultimately also a good deal and not really your problem?

You're a cold man.

We ended up passing, it was a bit more house than we/I wanted to deal with both due to mortgage and it had a pool ... which would have been a fucking nightmare with two small children.

They're not being foreclosed on yet. But I don't want it to get to that point either. The properties are just not being maintained, and there's no one residing at any of them. Last month, I saw the utilities company come by one of his properties, and shut off the water/electric/gas if that's any indication.

The new Alien was worse than Prometheus. No latex old-man disguises, but still fucking horrible.

It's fantastic. It's my favorite show by a country mile right now. It's just so different and I love Herr Starr so much even though he's a "bad guy"..lol
