I was pretty critical of JVR early on, but he's been pretty productive of late. Still not a fan of the player, or his contract, but he definitely deserves some love for not going to the way of Kyle Okposo. The same can be said for Hayes. Now, if Patrick can manage to come back either this season or the next, and be the player we're hoping he's capable of being... that's one hell of a situation to be in.

Yeah JVR doesnt play well with any of our big guns, but him and Pitlick have actually done well together.

Two big wins against Florida this week. Hopefully We can beat Tampa this weekend, they have a lot of players injured right now.

I haven't watched the games lately - just the highlights. But it looks like Giroux has been shifted back to LW with the man advantage, and it looks like he's back to being uber productive.

Yeah only took Therrien half a season to realize that Giroux needs to be on left side and that Couturier should always have been on the top PP unit.

This game just got wild. Friedman got boarded, flyers scored two quick goals, Gerbe launched into Giroux on a big hit and took down Sanheim in a fight after. Niskanen got away with a two handed slash to Nyquist's hand. Hopefully the intermission calms it all down but 5on3 to kill coming back.

Gonna guess that Sanheim caught a lot of crap in the locker room after getting taken down by Gerbe, tough look.

Time will tell on that Hayes contract, but so far so good, he's not going to win you a Cup or anything, but he's a really stabilizing presence. Guessing it's pretty nice for AV to throw whoever he wants on that line and know that he won't have to worry about it that much.

Looking at the replay, Sanheim stepped on a a stick or glove or something before falling. Still a pretty funny sequence.

Hayes has definitely been a really key player so far this year. All situation player. Looks great to have multiple SHGs and OT GWGs.

Finally got to see a game live again tonight and they did pretty well. Too bad Laughton missed the shot on the open net.

Also happy to finally have heard them play The Menzingers on the arena PA. I either never noticed it or it is relatively new, but glad that they are playing a local band (and one of my favorites).

Fletcher knew Patrick was having issues before he signed Hayes so I think that was a factor in it to begin with.

We've acquired Grant and Thompson as depth 4th liners. Both should be an upgrade over Bunnaman. Grant has 14 goals this year for Anaheim. Gave up a 4th and a 5th.

Islanders got Pageau for a ton of picks
Pitt got Marleau
WSH got Kovy
Carolina got Trochek.

Lots of weaponizing in our division

Flyers added some depth with Nate Thompson and Derek Grant for negligible assets.

I didn't want the team to make a big splash, but I can't help be a bit envious when the other teams in the division are adding guys like Marleau and Kovalchuk. Then again, it's not like they will make too big of a difference I don't think. We have a good team and we can hang with either.

Players like Marleau, Kovalchuk and Simmonds (unfortunately) are names only these days.

Trochek and Pageau are the acquisitions that bother me.

That Trocheck trade is deeply frustrating. I know we didn't need him, but watching a really good 2C come into our division for basically nothing because Tallon is an idiot is tough. Very "eh" on our moves today. I dunno the context in Anaheim, but Grant has been getting absolutely caved in at ES by virtually any metric.

Also, realistically, we're behind at least the top-4 in the East and probably Carolina after today as well, might as well just save the draft lottery tickets rather than adding guys that aren't going to move the needle. Ah well.

No way would I have given up those picks for Pageau though. Super expensive.

Trochek trade is curious. I wouldn't mind getting Haula as a depth guy is Florida keeps selling but I have no idea what Tallon is at. Trochek has been weak since his but injury but he's not that expensive for a middle 6 C

I obviously pay zero attention to these two fucks, but Grant's OZS% is 30. Nate Thompson's is 47.9. They're being used in a purely defensive capacity, and unless you're an elite possession player (i.e. Couturier) it's hard to build the advanced metrics up. And if they were really that terrible, their coaching (I'm assuming) would be giving them softer minutes to minimize the damage. Then again, we did spend multiple seasons watching Lehtera and VandeVelde...

Carolina didn't grab a goalie though which surprises me. I guess one of their guys will be back soon. Carolina got Skjei too jeez. They are loading up. Gave up a first and second for the dmen. I guess they had an extra first from Toronto but still a lot to give up with an AHL goalie tandem currently.

Lehner to Vegas.

Pittsburgh got some more depth too. East playoffs are going to be a blood bath

Very happy Fletcher didn't push too many chips in this year. It has been a great season as a fan (IMO), but they still need to grow a bit before it will make sense to bid too aggressively on your playoff chances. Particularly given that we are likely to face a really tough 1st round matchup no matter what.

Man, the East playoffs are going to be an absolute war, that top-4 is already absolutely stacked and Carolina got a lot better today.

I think the Flyers would have a decent chance in a series against any one of those 5, but no way are they going through 3 of them.

Would love for Ovi to get another one, but I have a hard time believing in that Caps team compared to the others that are lurking, hope I'm wrong. Caps are the one team where I'd feel confident that the Flyers had a good chance, wouldn't give us nearly a good a one against BOS/TB/Pitt.

Gotta give them more than 5 minutes, probably haven't even practiced yet. But I agree Farabee needs to be in either way. Grant should just be 4C and Thompson 13th forward really.

It's just an observation.

And speaking of observations... Carter Hart's puckhandling seems to have really improved since the start of the season. It's not anything we can validate or debunk with stats. It just felt like an adventure every time he touched the puck, early on.

I like Laughton back with Hayes, they played great together earlier in the year. What was the 3rd line last night? JVR-Grant-Pitlick? Would definitely be better with Farabee on that third line, even though Pitlick has played really well lately.

Beat guys pointed out that Grant was on a red-eye Monday night, so can understand if he was a bit off the pace, think it was JVR-Grant-Pitlick on that 3rd line that scuffled a bit.

The Myers thing is starting to look very legit, you can tell that he's starting to figure out what he can and can't get away with, but his physical tools and rush defense/recovery are fantastic, feels like that Sanheim-Myers pairing has been absolutely killing it lately.

Yeah and they're both plus skaters too, that pairing has a lot of great two-way potential. Hagg riding one of his PDO benders has been kind of entertaining, still have a nagging feeling that the best version of this team has Ghost in the lineup, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Keep in mind, we still have Zamula and Morin in the fold.

Morin has a lot of work to do to get back up to speed, but I still believe he has a higher upside than Hagg. Injuries may have completely derailed his career, though.

Zamula is going to have to spend a season in the AHL, with some games spot in the NHL. But I also have the feeling he's going to be another good one for the Flyers.

Morin is a write off at this point in my opinion, but he's signed cheap at least. Friedman has looked serviceable as a #6/7 in his games this year for the most part too which is a positive.

The very good news is that we will head into the offseason with a pretty settled top 4, which will include a 2nd pairing with a high-upside ceiling.

Yeah standings are still tight though. Rangers heated up lately so it's good to pull out a win against them and try to keep them at bay from being in the Wild Card. Another win against them on Sunday could turn out to be crucial for our playoff chances.

Huge win over the caps. JVR got hurt though, maybe Farabee comes back up for tomorrow's game. Would also like to see Ghost get some games in soon.

Edit: Confirmed broken hand for JVR. Farabee is called up for tomorrow.

Watched the game live but didn't want to turn on the computer afterward. Fantastic game against the Caps. That Grant redirect pass was great and Provorov blowing past Ovi was beautiful. 1 point back of the caps.

JVR has a broken hand which sucks, though. Hopefully he'll be back for the playoffs.

Yeah, they've definitely been getting some very timely saves the last couple weeks, but they skated right with the Caps. I completely get why AV doesn't want to mess with things when the team is rolling, but that Hagg-Braun pairing is definitely going to be a problem once their puck-luck evens out, Hagg in particular was just all over the place.

That was definitely a PO type game though and coming out with a win was big. It's surprising to me that Wilson hasn't killed/seriously injured someone yet, he was taking runs all night, feels like a matter of time. Giroux dodging and then laughing at him was great, and props to Hagg for jumping in there and standing up for Giroux, takes a lot of balls to fight a guy like Wilson when you know you're probably just going to be hanging on for dear life.

I'd like to see Ghost in for Hagg tonight so we have some fresh legs for the B2B. We can't keep Ghost scratched down the whole stretch, he needs some game action

Did you watch Ovechkin just walk right around Hagg? I think it was in the second or third period.

He was playing off Ovechkin, he wasn't active with the stick, and then when Ovechkin got on his hip he pivoted and took himself out of the play. But that doesn't happen if 1) you play him tight, 2) you use your stick to keep the puck on the outside and 3) you close Ovechkin off along the half-way.

Provorov does that shit ROUTINELY.
