Assuming this is an 6-18 month thing, going to raise some very uncomfortable societal questions. E.g., should we basically shutter most of the economy (and give millennials another major recession to deal with early in their earnings years) to decrease the risk to baby boomers and the silent generation?

The recession will be harder on boomers. Their retirements are getting wiped out and they have no time to recoup because they're old.

They can ride it out based on Social Security (which they will get the full benefit of incidentally, something that almost certainly won't be true for millennials) and whatever stopgap measures Congress passes. Whenever the market comes back, whether it's a year or 5 years, they'll get all their earnings back assuming they're smart and hold as much as possible.

Millennials are currently at an age where saving is massively important, particularly considering most of us weren't able to save earlier, and this is our 2nd major recession (first one decimated earnings for most of us in our 20s).

I dunno, I'm very far away from the point of saving "We should let life go back to normal", but what happens if we hit August and the situation hasn't really changed? Glad it's not my call tbh.

It was over 6feet for sure, but I did keep a path out of the back door clear so I piled a little extra on it.

Working from home as of tomorrow, but don't have a lot I can even do from home. Universities, schools and a lot of businesses closing up here. Still only 3 cases in the province but its good to take action before large scale outbreak. Going to be a weird couple of months.

I thought Loeffler would be the easier case here. She made bigger trades and didn't go through middle-men like Burr did. It was also the first movements on her stocks since taking office. And she bought stocks in companies that could profit off of the situation (e.g. a company that makes teleworking software). Both are fucked and are hopefully resigning soon. What a disgrace.

She's a billionaire. There is no way she's really managing that money personally, and it was chump change for her at that. Burr moved a huge chunk (personally) of his overall wealth.

Loeffler is pretty shitty, and a Trump stooge ... and very well may have nudged her portfolio managers, but I bet it will be hard to prove. Burr ... much deeper shit.

I doubt he's actually going to do it, but he's trying to game media coverage for short term wins with his base and (ideally in his mind) the stock market. There's a lot of problems with Trump, of course, but he's acutely aware that his best bet to win in November is to avoid massive pestilential death in an election year.

That being said, his short term thinking, ignorance, administrative incompetence, and a general failure of imagination has led us into a pretty hellish cul de sac for the time being. At the same time, it's pretty pathetic how the West has dealt with this in total given the time they had to prepare.

You 100% should not go on a cruise ship right now dude. Multiple cruise lines have already canceled stuff for next 30-60 days

Mainly ones that operate the majority of ships out of Europe. And Princess who had a number of issues.

Unless they cancel it, we are going.

Did you end up getting a refund? We got a partial because they reimbursed prepaid gratuities and taxes. But other than that we got diddly squat. Out $700. Not that bad considering we got a good deal but that's still money I wish I had back.

I'm working with Delta and my hotel to reschedule, because I know cancellations are going to be an absolute bitch. These companies don't want to give up the money right now, because they're bleeding cash daily. Whatever they can hold onto, they're going to, and they're going to use every loophole at their disposal to do so. But if I can reschedule... I THINK companies have more incentive to work with us, because I'm not taking anything out of their pocket. That's just my impression so far, though. We'll see how this pans out.

Wow you didnt get a full refund? Which cruiseline? Did you cancel it or did they?

We were on Royal Caribbean and they cancelled on us and gave us a future voucher for 150% of the price we paid. You could also just take a full refund.

Wow you didnt get a full refund? Which cruiseline? Did you cancel it or did they?

We were on Royal Caribbean and they cancelled on us and gave us a future voucher for 150% of the price we paid. You could also just take a full refund.

I canceled ahead of time before this whole mess started. Glad we did. I should call again with my canceled reservation number and see if they'll give me anything back. Celebrity Cruises BTW. So a Royal Caribbean company.

I'm with Rogers on this. I don't expect to get squat out of them. And he's right. Had they given me a refund I'd definitely come back to them when this all passes. Thinking twice now.

Delta honored a full credit (not a refund) valid for this year, and my hotel offered to reschedule me my reservation to a later date of our choice (I went with mid-August).

It pays not to be a dick after all.

How's everyone here doing? Southern Chester County (Landenberg) has a case or two but nothing too serious yet. Christiana Care has a bunch of cases though. How are you all fairing?

Well, my wife works in a DC hospital and is treating the COVID patients (they doubled in 6 days). Her message to everyone: whatever you do, do not get this bug.

While THAT is going on, I am "working from home" with a 3 and 4 year old all to myself.

I've had better stretches. And I am getting angrier and angrier at the ineptitude of the federal response to this situation. We should not be in this situation.
