Proof the NHL has always been fucked up:

Watching NHL Live and Scotty Bowman is on. They put up a graphic with his record (1,244-573-324) and just 2 Jack Adams Awards. The guy won 9 Stanley Cups and took teams to 14-15 finals. Yeah, some of those teams were loaded, but wow.

You never want to see a player forced to retire because of injury. Much better when he can go out on his own terms and time.

On a separate but related note -- do the +35 contract/retirement rules still apply in the new CBA?

Well, if he retires, that fucking sucks. He has been pretty much retired for two years now, but him retiring royally screws us in the cap. I guess they did come to an understanding with the management though.

I'd be curious if that could be waived in a case like that. The reason for that rule is relatively obvious: so a player doesn't get fucked out of money after having an injury.

I'd imagine the NHL and PA would allow it in this case so long as Pronger obliged.

This is something that needs to be worked out by the league and the PA. He can't be waived and can't be traded, either. The 35-plus protections were a great idea to keep GMs from cheating the cap (which they did anyway), but here's a guy who needs to simply move on in life and probably has, yet he must go through these charades that he's trying to come back. I only hope that if his symptoms are as serious as described, that he is in no way trying or seriously thinking of coming back. His life and family are worth more than another season or two on the ice.
As this matter lingers, it can only get turned in a bad way by the media. If Homer hadn't screwed up in the first place, only claiming after the fact that he knew it was a 35-plus contract, none of this would be happening.

I'm happy to have Read back... not sure this is wise, though. That being said, shit is getting relatively desperate relative to the standings.

Couple real blemishes in the sport of hockey, this week.

*Marc Staal gets hit in the eye with a puck - perfectly preventable, but the players' association refuses to challenge its members on the topic of mandatory visors.

*Tye McGinn and Dave Dziurzynski suffer potentially career threatening injuries during fights - again, perfectly preventable, but the league would never look into completely banning fighting. Obstinate retards.

*Ronny Keller is paralyzed after being hit from behind - this is the most dangerous play a player can commit, and yet guys like Hollweg, Kaleta, Cooke, etc. survived hundreds of games in the NHL. If the NHL were ever serious about players' safety, their disciplinarian wouldn't be such a pussy.

People always argue that the Atlantic is the most competitive division. So Bettman quickly kills that by adding 2 of the 3 worst teams in the NHL to our division.

Meh, easy wins.

4th highest cap hit in the league, for a guy that will be 28 next year and is coming off a big time down year. Only guys making more are Ovechkin (deal looks great right now), Malkin, and Crosby. The latter two are elite players, but Crosby's injuries are a reminder of the danger of these deals.

Just amazing how these teams conduct business.

Wonder how much the asking price for Bobby Ryan will go down. He'll be a hard fit for them with the cap trending down.

Some people on twitter are actually talking about Perry to the Flyers. I hate that fucking asshole but I fear that is actually going to happen at the deadline, draft, or simply in the offseason. Despite us not needing a sniper but rather a #1 defenseman, and of course us not having the fucking cap space for him anyway.

If Perry ever wears orange and black, I'm out until that asshole retires. I sucked it up when they signed Jagr. I sucked it up when they signed Carcillo. Perry is beyond my limit.

i understand your hatred for Perry is strong probably like with me and Gerbe(goes back to when he was in college) but deep down you cant ever stop cheering for your team. The Carcillo trade while bad was nowhere near as bad as when Clarke traded for Billy Tibetts.

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back. Just my 2 cents. You think I was thrilled when the Eagles brought in Vick? Hell no. But that's my team and will continue to be. I understand hatred towards specific players, but sports is a business. Every team will have players you don't like.

Generally agree, but Vick is a problem that goes beyond the sport. Just like the Flyers never should have acquired Tibbets.

I am aware that he was. What I am asking is why he was. I don't understand the reason behind since the Flyers and Penguins were not in any fierce rivalry at the time.

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are ALWAYS in a rivalry.

He was also just plain good.
