My only takeaway from this season so far is Toronto is going to be a really good team for a long time assuming Matthews stays healthy. At 19 or whatever he is it's obvious he's stronger than most people he plays against..he's only going to get stronger too.

Lots of discipline handed out today:

Vlasic was fined 5k for crotching Karlsson
Hoffman was suspended 2 games for cross-checking Couture in the head.
Eakin was suspended 4 games for running Lundqvist.

Rangers just got rocked for 7 goals twice in a row. Not sure that is the reason but I wonder if they now have second thoughts about putting Lundqvist on the bench in favor of Raanta for four games in a row earlier in the month. Probably also doesn't help that they didn't respond at all to Lundqvist being ran by Eakin in his first game back.

Carter's having a really good season with the Kings, and at this rate projects to finish top-5 in goal-scoring. I think that will give him four top-10 finishes in his career (so far) which is pretty impressive in and of itself for an 11th overall pick.

Bobrovsky is back to form, and his stat-line shows it. A .935 save percentage, and 1.87 GAA is filthy, I don't care what era you're talking about.

Regarding how other former Flyers are doing, I'm struggling to believe how consistent Hartnell has been (already at over 1000 games played), how good Sharp was, and how disappointing it is that neither Richards or Downie are playing in the NHL right now.

I never thought there was a chance the carter contract would turn out to be the good one and the Richards one would blow up. Happy that's he's still playing well though

Speaking of former flyers, that John Carlson guy is pretty good too

Downie has been on a twitter rant, calling out the Arizona Coyotes for their concussion testing and treatment of players, particularly John Scott. Meanwhile he praised the Flyers organization, especially when Ed Snider visited him in the hospital. Also called out Don Cherry for his backwards thinking hockey philosophy, the Rock 'em Sock 'em hockey videos and for calling Downie a pussy for putting on a visor. He puts partial blame on that mentality being put on him for his hit on McAmmond and how he thinks about the pain he caused for McAmmond and his family. Says he thinks about it every day in regret.

The chance was Richards' physicality and size catching up with him. And it did, albeit a bit sooner than I think everyone here expected.

The Islanders have put Halak on waivers because Halak sucks and nobody's going to trade for him with 2 years á 4.5 million left on his contract. Islanders still some of the worst management in the league.

Isles are carrying 3 goalies because they didn't want to lose J-F- Berube on waivers. I don t think he has even played a few games since they claimed him a the start of last season.
more proof of that terrible management by Snow.
I don't think Halak is a terrible goalie. Just isn't worth 4.5 million.

6-8-5 with a 3.25 GAA and a .904 SV% is pretty awful. Only Loui Domingue and Varlamov are worse this season (btw, M-A Fleury is also having a pretty terrible year which would be more pronounced if the Pens weren't shooting the lights out).

well then. I stand corrected. I really had not noticed how bad he was this year. granted he doesn't have a good team in front of him. But yeah those are some pretty shitty numbers.

So I finally got around to look at the NHL 100 Greatest NHL Players list. I expected it to be bullshit but jesus christ. They put in Toews over Thornton, Iginla, Malkin, Chara and Lundqvist. I mean it is really the only blemish on the list though I think on a career level both Keith and Kane are also below any of these five (though closer), but them being below Toews is a goddamn travesty.

Seems like the Barclays Center will kick out the Islanders after the 2018-19 season. Not sure where they are going to play or if they are going to play at all when the time comes, but any ice surface they do find can only be an improvement over Barclays.

I actually thought they should have included players who are currently playing in the NHL. They could use it as a marketing tactic for the game.

I never really followed Marchand before, but this cunt has done some serious work for his reputation. And I might be surprised how Bruins fans defend him after spending the last twenty bitching about Samuelsson if it weren't the fucking Bruins were talking about.

Probably not. There was a slash to the face earlier this year that went totally unnoticed by the DPOS.

Although, this was on NBC, so public image might force their hand.

In "some NHL coaches might actually be pretty dumb" news, Riley Sheahan apparently has 0 goals for the season and still averages more ice time per game than Andreas Athanasiou who is 6th in the entire league in individual goals per 60. And here I thought some of Hak's lineup decisions were pretty questionable, yikes.

I am not going to share the images because they are seriously disgusting and I didn't want to see it in the first place, but last night Crosby chopped off Mark Methot's finger with a slash (yes, literally) and wasn't even penalized for it.

I feel like the NHL needs to suspend him here for at least a game just to say they did. Slashing is becoming a huge problem and is rarely called unless a stick breaks which is backwards. Stick checks should be legal, slashes to the hands should not be.

I'll avoid pictures with Methot's finger in it, thanks for the heads up.

Another topic that continues to arise in the media is the Olympics. If this results in another work stoppage, I am serisouly reevaluating my fandom.
