Nashville's defense fits Lavi's system perfectly.

Eh, NSH has a great D, but we had a stacked top 4 when we went to the SCF. Third pairing was weak, admittedly. One of the key's to Lavi's demise here was the impact of Pronger's injury did to the D.

4 years ain't a bad rub for a professional coach. A big problem is that he is not inheriting a roster on the upswing.

They are firing a lot of others, too.

Hopefully a few of em end up on something other than a paywall site.

Does this mean that ESPN just won't have a hockey presence anymore? Pronman and Custance are the only 2 I can think of that haven't been announced yet and they're both behind a paywall.

I do think a lot of this is just the price for deciding not to go back in with ESPN in 2011. Can't really judge too much without knowing the details of ESPN's offer (and it may have been crappy enough that the NHL just couldn't accept), but even a declining ESPN still drives sports coverage in the US. Now we're coming up on Year 4 or so of a flat cap and the US's biggest sports media company apparently decided that it's not going to be in the hockey business anymore. How exactly does the NHL plan on growing?

Hope all those guys end up OK though, tough times for non-political journalists I guess.

The sad thing is that the internet side of the hockey cover wasn't all that bad. LeBrun did a solid job breaking news when he could. People bitch that ESPN never covers hockey but that was mostly true on the TV side.

That said, anyone who watched as prices for live sports increased while their subscribers were dropping on average 50,000 subscribers a month could easily tell you there was going to be a breaking point some time this year.

Crosby takes a stick to the side of the head, while falling down. The Pens are gifted a five minute major.

It did not look intentional at all, if you haven't seen it yet.

I mean, the incident was not good but it seems more like a series of unfortuante events, but it's still on Niskanen to not crack a guys skull with his stick.

Still, the reaction by the Pittsburgh media is quite insane, basically branding it as a conspiracy to commit premeditated murder.

I love the argument of "I have no evidence but I love hockey".

Hit looked accidental to me. Kinda similar to the McDavid-Manning thing where the outcome was unfortunate but there wasn't intentionality.

Also I think Pitt and their fans should still be on timeout as far as the "holier than thou" crap after employing Matt Cooke for 5 years. That guy ended Marc Savard's career.

Edit: And lol at Kunitz whining about it being "malicious." If he wants malicious, maybe he could take a look at his headshot on Gagne a few years ago (who already had concussion history). Give me a break.

Not to mention James Neal and his fucking elbows.

Hit was definitely a series of unfortunate events. Niskanen should have let up, but he didn't have much time to react to Crosby falling.

Leafs signed Zaitsev to a 7 year 4.5 million per year deal. What do you guys think about giving Ghost a deal like this? Too risky?

I would sign Ghost to that. I have a feeling that contract will come back to haunt the Leafs more than it would with Ghost.

James Neal and is fucking Knees. I can almost understand some cheap shots in the heat of the moment. "Gelegenheit macht Diebe" (opportunity makes thieves) is a german idiom after all. But it takes a special kind of psychological damage to skate out of your way to knee a player that is prone one the ice in the head. How Neal got less than 25 games for that, particularly given his history, is beyond me.

The Capitals are built around a ten million dollar winger with no cycle game, no defensive awareness, and poor passing skills. And that is why they are the paper tiger of the East.

Guess Neal added insult to injury by scoring that OT winner. Can only imagine how well the Preds would be doing if Subban wasn't dancing on the ice before games, would probably have already won the Cup.
