Fun fact of the day: Cory Schneider hasn't won a game since December 27th of 2017. Almost a year ago.

Peter Chiarelli has traded Drake Caggiula and Jason Garrison in order to acquire our old friend Brandon Manning and prospect Robin Norell. This trade is absolutely hilarious. I mean Garrison is old, but as far as I can tell still a better defenseman as Brandon Manning. Norell is a year younger than Caggiula and spent 3 years in the AHL without as much as a call-up, though they play different positions. For they trade one of their few decent forwards they have.

Said one guy on twitter:

Manning hasn’t dressed since December 12th. Chicago has rattled off 5 straight wins since then. Between October 18 and December 12th, Chicago went 7-17-3, and Manning was 0-2-2, -14. I hope he plays well, I do. But this isn’t a guy I would have taken for free.

Oh, and the locker room dynamic between McDavid and Manning could also be quite entertaining. At the same time apparently McDavid and Caggiula were close, so I am sure McDavid is really very happy right now.

Edit: Apparently a writer for The Athletic ranked Norell as #57 among 59 young players in the Blackhawks organization. This trade becomes more amazing by the minute.

I honestly can't imagine being an Oilers fan, there's probably an argument that McDavid is the most impactful player (goalies excluded) since Lemieux/Gretzky and they are going to completely blow it.

Hall (reigning MVP), Barzal (reigning Calder), Eberle (top-6 winger) into Larsson (No.4-5 d-man), Griffin Reinhart (not in NHL) and Spooner (healthy scratch) is mind-numbingly bad.

McDavid ought to demand a trade at this point. If I were him, I might have pulled an eichel and demanded some changes before committing long term

He (McDavid) looked like he was ready to play that card the moment he was drafted.

Chiarelli was finally fired yesterday. I was looking at the Oilers current situation and the moves Chiarelli made over his tenure, and it is absolutely ghastly. It might actually top Milbury's stint on Long Island as the worst GM tenure in the history of the sport.

They should probably trade McDavid to an organization that'll treat him proper. Preferably to an East Coast team with a future in front of them.

Say, for example, the Flyers?

Why would he go from one organization with no goaltending and questionable defence to another?

Woah, that Sharks Bruins game was a fucking disgrace. Sharks got jobbed out of a victory twice. Once because the Bruins scored the game-tying goal after knocking the puck down with a high stick a foot in front of the net, and a second time when a breakaway in OT was called off because the net was slightly off. What a joke.

Anbody seen the Kreider elbow on Pettersson?

The more I watch it, the more intentional it seems to me. People are saying that if Kreider wanted to hit him, he would have trucked him instead of rotating. What that misses that Pettersson dodges out of the way of the initial engagement. Then Kreider rotates and positions his elbow to lead with it which appears very deliberate. Then of course he elbows Pettersson in the face. I've seen people on reddit say that can't be intentional because Kreider isn't looking at Pettersson, but that kind of assumes that Kreider lacks object permanence or something and forgets that the guy he was trying to hit half a second earlier is still behind him. It's also not like Pettersson suddenly moves or ducks into the oncoming elbow.

It definitely appears to be intentional to me. There is no reason to spin other than to try to mask the intension to elbow.

Very reckless with his arm and stick there. If Voracek got 2 games, Kreider should get more than that but we'll see what the DOPS wheel lands on.

Sucks for Petersson but at least he didnt seem to have a concussion, just a bloody nose.

Are people seriously considering Crosby for the Selke? Are they completely drunk off their asses?

I don't think he should win, just saying that he has some stats behind him. He'll probably get nominated and lose

Still would be a joke, IMO. Zone starts aren't everything, and for guys that score there are tactical reasons why they would get offensive zone starts over defensive zone starts. Bergeron, for example, has seen his d-zone start rate drop in recent years ... but he built up his rep doing heavy d-zone start lifting earlier in his career. Then you got guys like Couturier (54.6% D) and Kopitar (58.5%).

A lot has been said over the years about how Selke voters overvalue offense, which is true to an extent ... but even then, it has generally been an award that moved to two-way guys that teams valued defensively that also happened to be good offensively. Not sure anyone is confusing Crosby for that category.

BTW, is there much hubbub about Couturier for Selke? I don't pay too much attention to this noise, but if he was a runner-up last year, he is arguably having a more Selke-worthy season this year ...

I haven't seen Couturier mentioned much outside of Appleyard. Bergeron, Crosby, ROR and now Stone are the names I've seen as predictions. Barkov/Kopitar seem to be excluded this year because of their team's struggles so maybe that applies to Couturier, but Bergeron did win once when the bruins missed the playoffs.. Bergeron seems to be the front runner but has missed a few games.

Somebody posting some sweet Cout stats:

https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/ ... -158269147 Seems there are a few non flyers fans suggesting Couturier in the top 3 at least

Couturier has more than a few things going for him:

*He's established amongst the voters.
*He's having another notable season.
*Some of his competitors are having less than stellar years.
*His major competitor has won so many already that voter fatigue may take full effect.

So, if I had to make a bet, my money's on Couturier this season.
