Thank God the Royals didn't suck after years of nothing but pathetic. And Kitchener is playing great, otherwise hockey would be a total wasteland.

I think that's unlikely, just because if you read the stories about Spurrier in DC it's comical how poorly suited he was to be a NFL coach from a temperament perspective (often the problem with college coaches). Spurrier wanted to sip sweet tea, play golf, and coach some offense ... he didn't care about any of the other crap.

The problem with Kelly seems to be a combination of arrogance and personality ... the former is fixable, the latter may not be. I think the worst thing that happened to the Eagles was going 10-6 his first year. They did not have a roster to really compete, and I think Kelly just totally bought into his own mythos at that point. The second worst thing that happened was Lurie giving all the power over to him.

I agree that Spurrier is not a great comp, he was lazy as fuck and Chip is not. That said, I'm not ready to say Chip will be Belichek either. Assuming that a coach who failed in his first go round will be great in the next (just bc of Belichek) is like assuming you can find a franchise QB in the 6th round just because of Brady. It ignores the larger number of coaches who failed and just stayed that way.

I also agree that going 10-6 that first year set him back, for three reasons: (1) I think it feed his arrogance to do so with a team that had some serious talent deficiencies; (2) it gave them terrible draft position so they couldn't address those deficiencies and (3) it convinced them that Foles was a good QB and possibly a system fit so they passed on some good QBs available in that draft.

Kelly is probably closer to Nick Saban than either of those two. Odds are he's not going to win a million national championships like Saban, but I'd be stunned if he couldn't go back to college and string together consistently very good teams.

Think a major difference between Kelly and Belichick is that a lot of his players apparently love him whereas Kelly and his guys definitely don't have the same thing. Not sure how much that matters in the grand scheme of things, but definitely worth considering.

Also, Belichick consistently adapts gameplans to his players and his environment, not sure if Chip really did the same thing. Long live the Pat Shurmur era.

Winning creates a lot of goodwill. It was always clear Kelly had guys that liked him, and guys that hated him.

Indeed, Joe gibbs' offense was famously simple. What made it challenging was that they could run pretty much the entire playback from each formation.

See, I think the baseline critique is fucking stupid ... you're really complaining that a player is fully engaged with the team/organization and shows up for shit? You'd rather have a team of "whatever" guys that just show up when it's absolutely mandatory? Hell, if I was a player and the team was introducing the new HC (my boss), I would show up if I was local.

Maybe not specific to the presser, but I found Kelce pretty grating this year. Obviously I do not want "whatever guys," but he came off as a loud chipbot, even as the team clearly stunk and he was having a terrible year.

I haven't listened to Philadelphia sports radio in quite sometime. I don't miss the hosts and their daily stale jokes (inset Tony Bruno's weird laugh). Nor, do I miss the same callers calling in. But, Innes... what a buffoon.

That I get, but that's a far cry from hitting him for showing up for the HC's introduction. I also think the media sort of forced Kelce and the other guys that liked Chip into that position ... which is a byproduct of Chip being far too much of a story with the team.

See, I listen purely for the stupidity of it all ... particularly given that I'm not an Eagles fan, and they talk about them 90+% of the time. That whole industry is the definition of "cannot take seriously."
