Downie needs to be put in a spot to succeed, and the press box isn't it. Is Read back? Because this is remarkably stupid, otherwise.

It's probably remarkably stupid regardless.

Mes, Grossmann, and Hartnell are allowed to fuck up with impunity (although Hartnell to his credit has turned things around) while Gus is benched for weeks due to a bad shift (and can't get back into the lineup now despite playing well when he was hurt). Now it appears that Downie is headed down that same path.

Downie needs to play with certain types of players to succeed, he's not a guy that's going to drive play through the neutral zone or anything. So when you put him with plugs or shuffle him around the lineup, he's not going to produce. It's pretty simple.

Downie also needs to play on the edge to succeed... and I think I would agree with Berube that the sandpaper has not been as coarse with him of late as we might expect.

I agree here. Downie really hasnt played with level of intensity, the level we expect and the Flyers traded for. the current level of play out of Dowie likely doesnt get him re-signed.

Shame, he had a whole lot of that "intensity" prior to his latest concussion.

he'll find it again. Wonder what the lines will look like when both Downie and Read are back in the lineup. Maybe we could roll the kids on the 4th line with Hall? Raffl-Hall-McGinn

I think it has everything to do with that rash of injuries he's had since the trade... Olympic break may do him well.

yeah i agree with Jester. the olympic break may do him a lot of good to get rested up for the stretch run. they are going to need him. a heathy Downie makes the Flyers a better hockey club.

Not at all. The record with Downie in the lineup is almost perfect. Without him we suck.

The Flyers are 31-13-5 with Downie in the lineup.

They are 9-16-4 without him.

Final numbers on the season;
With Downie - 32-14-5
without - 10-17-4

So if he isn't back soon we have no chance against the Rangers.

I assume Vinny would have been waived instead if not for his NMC
