I mean I'm hoping one of Lyon or Stolarz pan out too, but if you're a betting man and need to pick one Flyers goalie prospect, bet the house on Hart.

Frost missed the game last night, but no injury from what I can tell.

Morin and Myers, however, were. I don't have any news on Stolarsz.

I see the US and Canada are playing an outdoor game in Buffalo on December 29. I would honestly drive up for that if there wasn't so much going on in my life. One day, I swear, I'm gonna catch the WJC when they have it in Buffalo.

I also saw on WHL.ca that the Greyhounds (1st) and Bulldogs (9th) are some of the top rated teams in the CHL today.

http://chl.ca/article/chl-announces-top ... -dec-62017

The rankings are put together by NHL scouts, so there's some value in them.

Why I find this significant is because Morgan Frost is the leading scorer of the Greyhounds while Strome is the leading scorer of the Bulldogs. The two are driving play, and they're doing it not at the expense of their team but to the betterment.

I wish I could comment on the skills of these guys, but I'm really just tracking to see how they're managing relative to their peers, figuring we're probably not going to get an NHL player if we can't get a good CHL player.

Morgan Frost earned second star of the night honors after putting up 2 goals, 2 assists, and finishing +5 on the night.

For as impressive as Hart has been, Frost has been nearly as good in his d+1 year which is very, very good news for this organization (with Rubtsov struggling to carry his performance over from last year, and Laberge being a write-off prospect after his concussion.) We really need more top-end talent to supplement Lindblom, Patrick, and Konecny in case any of them fail to reach their potential for one reason or another.

The OHL is back, and so were our kids.

Ratcliffe finished with 2 goals and a +1 rating on his way to first-star honors. Strome finished with a goal and an assist, which was good enough for third-star recognition. And Frost, by his standards, had a pretty quiet game with just one goal.

Ratcliffe has 30 points in 33 games after starting a little slow, putting up just 9 points in his first 15 games played. And Strome wasn't much better off, with 10 points through his first 15 games. He's been a machine ever since, though, scoring 27 in 18.

If anyone's curious as to why I'm not tracking Bunnaman as closely, there's nothing specific I can point to other than a lack of faith in his limited offensive production ever translating to the NHL.

He is definitely trending in the same way Konecny and Provorov were the moment they were drafted.

I was thinking there was an overload at center, but with Giroux shifted to wing, both Filppula and Lehtera on their way out (Lehtera can be buried... or return to Finland), and Laughton playing on the checking line, there's a pretty decent opportunity in the top-9 playing sheltered minutes behind Couturier and Patrick.

It could be real interesting, depending on the camp he has.

Honestly, I'd be shocked if frost makes the team next year (unless she shifts to wing). Patrick doesn't look ready to be a 2C and Laughton will be a 3C at best. Can't see hextall throwing a 19 year old into that mix. Would put my money on a veteran stopgap. Maybe another year for filppula

I don't see Hextall actively forcing Frost into the line-up, but if he comes in and plays lights-out can you honestly see Hextall sending the kid back?

It's not as if size is a concern with Frost. At 6.00 and 180lbs, he's already bigger than Giroux. The only thing that may be a concern I would think would be his balance.

Right, I don't think Hextall is ever going to go into camp with a junior-eligible rookie and hand him a roster spot, and other considerations will matter. Particularly with a guy like Frost, who, unlike Patrick, will not have his draft position creating exterior pressure on the organization. That being said, if he shows up in September coming off a season where he dismantled the OHL and has a strong camp ... he's removed one of the potential arguments (he didn't show it at the OHL level) against keeping him on the roster.

It's going to be an interesting few years here as we see these players break onto the roster and (hopefully) succeed at the next level. This spring will go a long way towards shaping decision making, too. If Patrick has a strong second half, whatever happens with the D the rest of the way, etc.

Feels good to see him rebound after last year's less than stellar WJC:

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=161850

Then there's this little beaut':

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for December 2017.

Hart, who was selected in the second round, 48th overall, by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2016 NHL Draft, recorded a perfect 5-0-0-0 record, 0.60 goals against average and .983 SV% to guide the Silvertips through the first third of December.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound goaltender from Sherwood Park, Alta. stopped 171 of 174 shots over the five games, recording a pair of shutouts along the way. He was recognized as the WHL Goaltender of the Week and as the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week in back-to-back weeks. He’s earned WHL Goaltender of the Week honours four times this season while being named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week three times as well. He was named as the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for November 2017.

In his five December games, he was recognized in the game’s three stars all five times, earning one first star award, three second star honours and a third star award. He was also recognized by the WHL’s nightly three stars, earning a second and third star honour throughout the first third of the month.

People talk about Price, but I see more Lundqvist - the way he controls his rebounds, and how strong he looks down low.

Regardless, it looks like he's got a style that will work for him in this league at his size.

Good to great news on the prospect front, depending on your perspective:

1. Ratcliffe scored two goals and was named first star of the game last night.
2. Morgan Frost had a goal and two assists and was named first star.
3. Matt Strome's Bulldogs acquired Robert Thomas who was one of the most talented and productive players in the entire OHL. If anything comes of this move, it'll be one long playoff run. The Greyhounds, by comparison, added Taylor Raddysh and Jordan Samborok.

Ask and ye shall receive, bitches.

The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 21, 2018.

Hart, a second-round selection, 48th overall, of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2016 NHL Draft, was once again stingy to opposition offences this week, winning both his starts this week while compiling a 0.50 goals-against-average and .980 save percentage after allowing one goal on 49 shots.

...

Hart continues to lead the WHL in GAA (1.35), SV% (.958) and shutouts (6) while sitting tied for eighth in victories (17) and has allowed 28 goals in 21 games. Since being drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158rd overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart has appeared in 170 WHL regular season games, compiling a 102-43-9-10 record with a 2.03 goals against average, .926 SV% and the aforementioned 25 shutouts. Already the owner of the Silvertips’ franchise record for shutouts, Hart is now just five wins behind alumni Leland Irving’s 107 victories for the franchise record.

This week marks the fifth time Hart has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week. Hart is a three-time winner of the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week Award.

So is it possible for Hart to jump right to the NHL next year at the rate he's at? Or will he need a year in the AHL to develop a bit more? Not sure how this typically works with goalies in juniors...we haven't had one seriously worth following for a bit now.

its possible, but I don't see it. every young goalie needs to spend time in the minors and learn to play against men in the AHL. Goalies with high expectations have gone down there. John Gibson, Jake Allen, Jonathan Quick,Carey Price, Bernier. Just to name a few all did.
I don't think Lundqvist did, but he was playing against men in Sweden before he came over.

I'd like to see him in the AHL for a year or two if for no other reason than to physically mature. He's 6'2" and 180 lbs. One shot from a douchebag like Hornqvist or Perry, and he's going to be spending more time on the IR than between the pipes.

I'm really, really, REALLY hoping that Frost comes out to be another one of our draft picks that all the teams who drafted before us and passed on him regret doing so. Considering he was a late first rounder, that would be 90% of the league.

I wish I could take credit for making these videos, or even finding them on my own, but that is not the case.

Some more CHL updates for you:

Morgan Frost had a OT goal and assists last night. That wasn't good enough for even third star honors, apparently. BUT I figured it was still worth a mention here because that was Morgan's fifth consecutive game in which he's scored two points or more. He's currently at twelve points through five games and eighty-four (thirty goals and fifty-four assists) through forty-nine, which is good enough for the lead league.

Strome's gone ice-cold since the Robert Thomas acquisition, which is odd but not all that unprecedented. Even though he doesn't have a single point in his last four games, he's still hovering at a PPG.

Raatcliffe, on the other hand, is starting to turn it on again. He had a goal and an assist last night, which was good enough for second star honors. But if you're looking for a larger sample size, he's scored twelve points in his last ten games, which I think is pretty good given his start. On the season, he's scored forty-six points through forty-eight games, with time to spare. Also worth noting, he's matched his career high in goals scored with nineteen less games played.

Hart was just Hart. Twenty-nine of thirty-one for the win, and second star of the night. It's funny in an absurd way that a game like that can cause his GAA to rise and his SVPCT to dip, but that's going to happen when you're riding a .952SVPCT and a 1.55GAA. The next lowest GAA in the WHL, for a little perspective, is a 2.76 GAA and the next highest SVPCT is a .914. In the OHL, Carter's competition is a .248 and a .920. And in the QMJHL, he has a 2.06 and a .931.

Isaac Ratcliffe

I can't recall if I posted this or not, but just in case:

CARTER HART – WHL GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH

Hart, the first goaltender selected in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round (48th overall), posted a 6-1-0-1 record in the month January along with a 1.97 goals-against-average, .934 save percentage and one shutout.

The busy month for the 6-foot-2, 185-pound goaltender from Sherwood Park, Alta. began as he helped lead Canada to a gold medal at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. He returned from Buffalo to the Silvertips’ lineup in the middle of the month and picked up where the 2017-18 campaign left off, extending his personal winning streak to 13 games and allowing just seven goals in his first five games back.

That streak included his 25th career WHL shutout, a 4-0 win over of the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday, Jan. 20. The achievement placed him one behind the WHL’s all-time shutout record of 26 shutouts, held by former Vancouver Giants goaltender Tyson Sexsmith.

Hart’s month of January included being named the WHL Goaltender of the Week for the fifth time this season once as well as being recognized as the third star of the game twice. He was also named the WHL’s second star of the night once. This season, Hart continues to lead the league in GAA (1.53), SV% (.953), and shutouts (six). His 19 wins rank him seventh in the league, through just 25 games.

Originally selected by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart surpassed the 100 win milestone for his WHL career this month and also surpassed the 10,000 minute mark for time played. In his WHL career, Hart has a 104-44-9-11 record, 2.04 GAA, .926 SV% and 25 shutouts.

He is the Silvertips franchise leader in shutouts and is currently three wins shy of reaching Leland Irving’s all-time Silvertips wins record (107).

Also, a little feature out of Everett. His coach may be right - Hart may be the best player in the league (possibly even the CHL) this year, if he keeps it up.
