Pretty much.

--------------------

Shayne just tied Joni in career points (as a Flyers' defenseman) with something like 80 less games played. Very impressive for a 3rd-round draft pick.

If you ever wondered how amp'd players are during their first NHL shift just watch that first shift by Goulbourne he was trying to hit anything that moved.

Flyers currently have 3 of the top 16 point producers.

Still on the outside looking in on the playoffs.

They showed during today's game that yesterday he had something like 5:37 TOI, 4 hits, and +1. I'm pretty sure 3 hits and the +1 came from that first shift alone. LOL. Guy was in freight train mode that whole shift.

Honestly, how didn't he got more ice time? Did he just fall off after that shift? He seems like he might be an okay 4th liner especially if he can PK like Hexy claims.

I missed a lot of the game because of a friend's kid's first birthday party, but yeah it seemed odd for a fourth liner. Typically log 8-12 minutes depending on special teams.

God knows we could use all the help we could get on the PK.

Definitely. I think this team is right where they "should" be. Fringey playoff team, and if Giroux, Voracek, etc. remain hot and the kids come around a bit, the second half could be a lot of fun and they might make someone a bit nervous come playoff time. Really, if their PK was halfway decent (they have the personnel) they would be in decent shape. And you throw in the fact that they shat away some games during the 10 game losing streak that had a lot to do with youth/inexperience, IMO ... and I think everyone should feel halfway decent about where we're at.

Playoffs or not, it's all about Sanheim, Hagg, Konecny, Patrick, and, possibly, Morin down the stretch here ... and we may see the appearance of some rookie forwards here soon, too. It's going to be a tough schedule with all the Metro teams.

It'll be tough, but it's also a great opportunity to gain separation in the standings.

--------------------

Claude Giroux is now 1 point away from tying Recchi for 8th all-time in points scored as a Flyer. With 17 points, he can tie LeClair. With 24 points, he can tie Kerr. With 33 points, he can tie Lindros. Hold on to your butts, folks.

I do hope Patrick rides the pine for that stupid and selfish penalty. If he doesn't, how else is he going to learn about accountability?

It's something that always bothers me - the immediately transparent talks about "accountability" in sports. If Patrick sits for taking bad penalties, that's one thing. But guys like MacDonald, Filppula and Manning need to be stapled to the bench for their mistakes as well. And they're not.

So, what's the fucking lesson you're teaching the kids, how much of a biased dick you can be?

It's fucking annoying, and it's been like that (across multiple coaches) for as long as I've been able to pay close enough attention.

--------------------

On a similar note, if it weren't for the work of a handful of players (literally five of them), I don't think Hakstol would have a job right now. And what's more frustrating, he's going to get credit for Couturier's breakout when Couturier had to personally go to the guy, and demand a bigger role.

It's one of Hak's flaws IMO. Agree what you're saying he will quickly bench the kids for mistakes, but the awful play by vets just goes unnoticed.

Excellent game to decide to win in regulation.

I really want to see this roster get back to the playoffs 1) to see the kids get some experience and 2) to not completely and utterly waste the season Giroux, Voracek, and Couturier have been having.

Good win against a division rival ahead in the standings, and good to see them win after a long time off which is kind of an issue with this team.

As others have mentioned, the whole "accountability for young players" shtick is wearing pretty thin when the same vets screw up on a night-to-night basis and continue to play.

Manning was atrocious last night, but he's still seen as a "veteran safe pair of hands" or w/e while Sanheim is stapled to the bench or scratched because of bad puck luck. Saw the same thing with Ghost last year, suddenly out of the doghouse this year because bounces stopped going against him.

Manning on PP2 is scary too. I feel like even Hagg would be a better option for the PP2 while Sanheim is scratched. It's also laughable that Konecny isn't on PP2 right now.

We don't have much worth selling, but if we get any offers for Flip or Manning we should go for it. Weise and Lehtera are unmovable until they are pending UFA.

Even then, it's more likely the two (Weise and Lehtera) end up in the AHL than competing for a Stanley Cup in Imaginationland.

Filppula, due to a lack of production at center outside Couturier and Laughton, will probably see his contract through.

Manning, though, is a real possibility. Morin's back from his injury finally, Sanheim is pressing for a spot on the roster, Myers is getting his first real taste of pro hockey, Hagg looks like he could handle a spot next to Ghost next season, Provorov is just a given, and both MacDonald and Manning are signed long-term. That's a lot of bodies to compete with, regardless of the cap long-term cap implications.

Stolarsz and Lyon getting hurt royally fucked the goaltending situation up this year. No doubt in my mind about that.

I would've liked to see Stolarz become the backup at roughly the midway point if he was ready, but as legendary Flyers GM Paul Holmgren used to say it is what it is.

It's fitting for tonight. February 6, 1997 Flyers defeat Montreal 9-5 as Legion of Doom collects 16 points. Absolutely insane. John LeClair nets 5 goals.
