still think Patrick is dealing with the post surgery issues from his sports hernia. just like with Ghost and Giroux last year. Hopefully he can get his legs going later in the year. I don't mind them managing his minutes and keeping them down. Patrick even said himself he doesn't deserve he playing time.

Giroux's crazy pass on Hagg's goal. I wish there was another angle because that pass was friggin epic. Through his own legs, backhand, cross ice.

Speaking of Giroux, he's two games away from bumping Simon Gagne out of the top-10 for all-time games played in Philadelphia. He's also within striking distance of some other Flyers' favorites, which I think puts him in pretty elite company.

Assists
1. Bobby Clarke* 852
2. Brian Propp 480
3. Bill Barber* 463
4. Claude Giroux 421
5. Mark Recchi* 395
6. Eric Lindros* 369
Rick MacLeish 369
8. Rod Brind'Amour 366
9. Mark Howe* 342
10. Pelle Eklund 334

Points
1. Bobby Clarke* 1210
2. Bill Barber* 883
3. Brian Propp 849
4. Rick MacLeish 697
5. Eric Lindros* 659
6. Tim Kerr 650
7. John LeClair 643
8. Mark Recchi* 627
9. Claude Giroux 614
10. Rod Brind'Amour 601

(It's still disheartening to see Lindros on that list, and to know he had the potential to do so much more.)

He's also been captain for six seasons now. Last guy to do that was Lindros, and nobody has been captain for 7+ years except Clarke. Dude has had an extremely impressive Flyers career and is going to go down in the top 5 or better in tons of stats. He's what, like a year away from being 2nd in assists and 4th in points?

Knock on wood. (Giroux would not be the first to have the wheels fall off suddenly at his age.)

Hmm, RP makes threads about Simmonds/Hagg and they both score last night, maybe do ones about Patrick/Konecny next?

Barring some catastrophic injury, either he remains productive or he gets there by scoring 20 points a year while we're stuck with his contract for four more years.

One thing about Giroux is that his game isn't really based on strength or speed. It's mostly hockey sense and precision. If he's healthy he should at least be able to produce reasonably for most of his contract. This year shows that last year had more to do with his off season surgery than his play dropping off.

But, if being physically limited by the surgery limited his game, why wouldn’t being physically limited by increasing age similarly affect his game?

Yeah, if he starts to feel old he could very quickly go toward only scoring on the PP like last year. Hopefully that's a long ways off though - dude's fun to watch when he's playing like this

God willing.

I do think the move to wing might well extend his career.

Couturier had a few impressive power moves yesterday late in the game. Too bad he didn't finish one of them. One should have been a penalty shot since the blue jacket threw his stick.

which begs the question. If Hextall was here when Bob was here does everything go down the way it did.
I know it was Snider who pushed for it. But I would think that Hextall would of been able to convince him to be patient.

A fan yesterday suggested that Hextall is forcing Hakstol's hand in line-up decisions, and while I wouldn't go that far I don't doubt that there is somewhat of an ideological difference between the two. Hakstol routinely fed ice-time to Streit, VandeVelde, and Bellemare last season even though they were clearly overmatched. This season, they're missing from the line-up completely. This season, Manning, Lehtera, Weise, and Filppula are getting pretty generous minutes given their "contributions." And again, I'm expecting Hextall to take Dave's toys away the first chance he gets, which may be this off-season. Then, we're down to MacDonald...

... the roster just isn't and hasn't been that deep. Not sure it is anything beyond that. Increasingly talented, but that's a developing reality as opposed to an achieved one.

I mean, Lehtera has been a regular scratch.
