I want to ask, do you think it's a coincide that the greatest offensive forwards of all-time each played in front of a Hall-of-Fame defenseman (i.e. Esposito and Orr, Gretzky and Coffey, Lemieux and Coffey, Howe and Kelly, Lafleur and Robinson, Beliveau and Harvey, Hull and Pilote, Bossy and Potvin, etc.)
Or that widely regarded great defensive forwards also played in front of great defensemen (i.e. Gainey and Robinson, Trottier and Potvin, Yzerman, Fedorov, Draper and Lidstrom, Zetterberg and Datsyuk and Listrom, Carbonneau and Chelios, Jarvis and Langway, Bergeron and Chara, Toews and Keith, Kopitar and Doughty, etc.)
I'm admittedly picking names out of a hat, with this. But, at least at a glance it does look like behind every great forward is a great defenseman.
