Bergevin should only sign Bozak and De Haan, just bite the bullet and come back strong in 2019-2020. We need to pick up new hobbies, this winter will be a long one.

It was pretty clear from the get go that Cormier had to punch from clinch to win this fight. He's the better wrestler but the height disadvantage took away his take down, Stipé is a good boxer, when he's going against heavy hitters he fights for the clock and control the tempo of the fight, just a brilliant fighter, didn't work this time.

Cormier said it for a while now that with his new super belly he could hit hard AF, it seems Stipé didn't have any strategy for this smaller man who was going to go this single strategy "Imma gonna go near him and use that power belly punching puissance" : can't punch him, can't take him down cause he has Louis Cyr dumbell in the stomach and he's just better at wrestling than Stipé. That Face Stipé made after he got cliped at the begining of the fight "Maybe i should have tried to learn how to kick when i was a kid".

Also Cormier can't kick with his new weight, looked CM Punk-dumb everythime.

Yes as mma evolves, they are realizing even more how boxing is efficient in real life situation. Same with Tae Kwan do and even point karate for kicks. For the first 20 years they were all about wrestling, jiu jitsu and muay Thai. Even judo is way more practiced by professional fighters nowadays.

Spinning back kicks will get all the Royce Gracie of this world into a fetal position.

There's definitely an emphasis on striking the last few years, but I can't see Tae Kwan do and Karate being as effective as Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai due to its predictability and energy management inefficience. I'm dying to see a well rounded dude with a truly devastating kicking game though, closest we get is crackhead Jones. There are proper boxing techniques that will be refined in MMA, there's tons of tools in Boxing that MMA fighters can explore. Specially now with the rise of Lomachenko and his Wing Chung-esque boxing, I can see guys starting to emulate his style in MMA.

By themselves TKD and Karate are really bad, they are not replacing MT, wrestling or BJJ, but for long they completly ignore the power of TKD and Karate kicks, now a lot of fight are won by pretty high flying kick to the head, it mostly come form Karate and TKD.

It's not as predictable as you might think look at this fight, three direct TKD kick all really fast, powerfull and unpredictable.

Also Wonderboy standing is pretty much Karate and boxing, not much Muay thai there, he's a beautiful fighter.

All i'm saying is that the next generation will come with different weapons than the previous one, and high flying kicks will be a bigger part of the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tae Kwon Do olympic champs being added as coach to UFC training camps.

Stephen Thompson is essentially that. There have been a string of highly regarded Karate guys who tried to break in, but he's the only one who really made it. Remember the hype for Sage Northcutt?

If you go back a bit, there was Machida too.

GSP credits karate a lot for his striking game and says it helped his wrestling too.

GSP doesn't really use karate that much during fights, there is actually a ton of fighters who have karate and tkd as their background.

BTW Greg I gather you are an mma fan? Since you referenced Sage Northcutt. I don't think he's a bust yet, he just need to actually put a lot of work in grappling and take down defence. Look at Adesanya who never did any grappling before starting mma, he added ground and pound to his arsenal, it's good enough for now.

A couple of years ago, I believed that the GSP prototype was the future of the sport, now I believe the future of the sport is less mma and more specialization. Most fighters nowadays have one massive weapon to start their career, and their game revolves around setting up that weapon, and the older they'll get the more diverse they'll get.
