If you're looking for a word to describe your adorable pet pup, "selfish" might not top the list.

But a new study published Wednesday in the journal PLOS ONE suggests Fido's reputation for being caring is all a ruse -- at least if you're a fellow dog.

Nietzsche was a very gifted man, he became the youngest philology professor in the world and became a philosopher by studying philosophy by himself in his spare time. He was also known to be a very nice man, strangely. All that while spending most of his time alone in a dark room vomiting and unable to read much without getting nauseated, he had to hire people to write for him because when he was sick he couldn't write for more than 20 minutes a day without getting unbearable headaches.

Hey multifasta, you ever deep(ish) dived into buddhist philosophy? The thing is exactly my sort of mental clusterfuck. Reading up a bit (as in a few books in). Yogacara, in particular, seems to be extremely close -if not essentially identical- to Dogphilosophea. Meditating fuckers thousands of years ago pierced through to the fundamental nature of reality and most still haven’t caught on. Jesus, we are hard headed self-deluded fuckers. Read it substituting the non-dual (no object and subject distinction) for the quantum field I keep harping about (a non spatial-temporal field of superpositioned limitless potentiality) from which continuously emanates « particles » in pairs (such particles being the field itself limiting itself). From the aggregates of such spatial-temporal delimitated particles comes the false sense of individuality that, if pursued, only leads to « further and further » individuality (how I see the buddhist source of « suffering » as a false belief in self and thus self-interest action of grasping for one’s self or avoiding for one’s self) while a recognition (theoretical and experimental) of the underlying unity dissolves the self and resolves everything back to the unitary field and that the individualized experience is but the field forgetting its fundamental unity. They follow quite honest and strict logic and dig and dig and dig. I claim indépendant discovery, though. That is if I was a distinct thing.

Massively cool stuff I find in there when you start digging in.

For you christian fuckers, the trinity thingamajig is in essence the same. Field as creator (Gawd), field as created being aware of its fundamental nature (a Jesus or a Buddha or whatnot) and the holy moly spirit as the mediating force between the two (field as potential). All 3, the same thing (field) looked at from different viewpoints.

This shit is not complicated, come on!

But seriously, it’s either that (we a self creating intermingled blob) or there is an « external » « eternal » being (a 400 pound dude on his bed in his mom’s basement) and we are bits in his quantum computer. From what we know of reality, spatial-temporal existence requires change -in fact it is ontologically change. An eternal thing would then either be forever fixed (not a thing capable of anything) or a thing changing in a loop (3 steps forward, 3 steps back) -aka. a limited thing. You want eternity and freedom, you gotta have ontological unity between the created and the creator. It could of course all be happenstance. By definition there is no planner, just development. Potential played out in certain ways. At the same time, when potential recognizes itself and can promulgate that knowledge, it can maybe mold itself. Become, perhaps, self directed, at least to an extent. Playdoh realizing it is playdoh and acting in a more coherent and coordinated manner than just little bits of playdoh fighting each other to preserve their identity/existence.

You’re not paying attention. Eternal can only be a relative thing -a function of a constant rate of change. Change requires two or more things contrasting. Things existing in of themselves are by definition temporary (because change) or forever fixed. Things in relation to each other must undergo a rate of relative change for there to be a meaningful distinction. Existence is in duality/plurality (in relative movement), but the duality/plurality can be rooted in underlying unity. In fact, I can’t ontologically envision how something can exist without being this apparent paradox of simultaneously being a thing but a thing that forever divides itself into ever changing bits. Again, think of the underlying « abstract » field of simultaneous infinite potentiality, expressed in the relative movement of its subdivisions. Therefore, multifa, you are a forever changing part of a tight 20 year old psych student living in a well kept home!

...as serious as a poutine shortage in Chicoutimi during a curling bonspiel...
