I don't see how trading for C rentals makes sense and I figure there just wasn't a market for Benn or Schlemko. He got a pretty good return on Pleks and found a taker for Morrow. Not bad. I'm glad he didn't trade Patches, I don't understand why fans seem to have a desire to run him out of time and I think the return would have been really underwhelming. I don't think he would have gotten first line C with term or a top pairing D back, which are the only trades I'd want for him. I wish he could have found a taker for Shaw and the garbage D nobody wants, but whatevs.

Right now I would be happy with a legit 2nd line center. Brassard & Namestikov are not rentals and you didn't need Patches to land either one.

Brassard wasn't a rental? Yeah, should have been in on that. Maybe they were, who knows. I'm not sure Namestnikov was going anywhere unless it helped get them a McDonagh.

Brassard is ufa after next season. Hes not a rental but hes also not a long term solution imo

At his age do we want to be the ones doing a 5 or 6 year extension?

Can we stop looking for the unicorns? On this team Brassard is Gretz FFS.

This team wouldnt be salivating on brassard if we got guys like brayden schenn, derek stepan, eric staal, jonathan marchessault, and others when it had the chance.

I agree we should have been after namestnikov.

The next guy who is likely moved and i want my hands on is RNH.

Joseph Veleno feels inevitable to me. We slide up to the 7th or 8th or 9th pick and we reach slightly for the best centre.

Hes moving up with strong play in drummondville

All we really need is a number one center. The defence with Weber Back, Mete and Juulsen taking bigger roles, Petry peaking. It's good enough to win a cup.

There's actually a lot of goal scoring in this line-up, they just lost their mojo thi season, let them go in the the corner, feel shame and think about what they did and comeback back as pénitants next season.

If only those pieces of shit would understand that Galchenyuk is better at center.

Drouin - Galchenyuk - Gallagher
Patch - Danolt - Scherbak
Hudong - DLR - Lehkonen
Byron - Shaw - D-Low

Mete - Weber
Rielly - Petry
Alzner - Juulsen

But seriously why not play both Drouin and Galchenyuk at center?

Patch - Galch - Scherbak
Lehkonen - Drouin - Gallagher
Hudon - Danolt - Chat
Byron - DLR - Dlow

Mete - Petry
Alzner - Juulsen
Reilly - Shlemee

why not let Galch be.
He's coming into his own on the wing, it is a less mentally demanding position. It is also a less challenging position. Chucky just needs to stay on the wing and become the idea of the sniper we always imagined he could be.

JD on physical demands

Because the entire philosophy of this pick was wrong.

Ottawa beat us in the 2013 playoffs. The series eller got injures and all.the fights.

We drafted mccarron and crisp.way too high immediately afterwards. Big tough guys with limited offensive upside.

We then went and signed doug murray and george parros.

Meh... the big tough guys for.the fourth line are always available in free agency. We.had no need to take them.early.

Dont use high picks on toughness without skill.

Top picks should be used on potential top 6 fwds/ potential top 4 d.

And yes picks bust.

But ill.take 1 pacioretty and 2 busts

Over 3 big guys with no skill.who end up 4th liners.

Even if we drafted 3 ryan reeves... 1 pacioretty is worth more.

There is an argument to be made for a worker bee playing alongside more talented linemates, and I find the league is moving back to that trend a bit. A Danault [more than DLR] won't help a Galch with his creativity but he can do things during a shift that do help. Using1/2/3 designation kind of kills the argument but lots of grat players have thrived alongside, grinders, plumbers, checkers, whatever word is in style. The problem is that Galch isn't Crosby or Laine, he doesn't have +++++ talent to make up for the straight ahead guy to his left. More and more mid 0's games are available of yt now, and if you get bored with the regular Tuesday night game, they can be fun to check out. Our radio pundits would be surprised to see Jean Beliveau with John Ferguson his left, or the year before with Claude Provost on his right.

Grant is exaggerating though, probably to win an argument. Never an attractive thing. I can actually see how DLR could be moe than he is now. He can forecheck, he can shoot, he can make a pass, he just can't do it consistently, at least he hasn't up to now. He could be a guy who finds a nche later on, like Boyle or someone, who knows. It wouldn't surprise he if he just fades away, but he could more than a 15 point guy. He needs to add something, 1 thing that he excels at, a shadow in situations, great pk guy, something that they can call on when they need it. He doesn't have that 1 thing yet.

I'm actually leaning on Grant side here, but DLR doesn't have much offensive attribute, he's good at hitting guys, enterning the zone with the puck with lot of speed and going to the net, Appart from that can't really contribute consistantly. The fact that he's amazing without the puck makes him an interesting asset.

Remember when our AHL team had a functional website and highlights were easily accessible ? Each of the last few years when DLR was putting up more points at the end of the season, you'd see some impressive plays, off wing one timers, going to the net tipins, etc. He seems timid about trying to do something that ay not work.

If the CH had a few good lines, getting about 65-75 goals each, a line with a Hudon-DLR and a developing winger, or young grinder, could be an asset. if you get 2 lines totaling 100 ahead of you, well the line stinks.

Danny Dubé was in Sweden two years ago, and the hockey people there told him that DLR had untapped offensive potential and they saw him as a top 6 player, so you never know.

This year it seems nobody can produce, you look at players like Lehkonen, Drouin, Hudon, Scherbak and DLR doing everything right and show flashes of skills but it doesn't translate in points. So maybe it's just a year to write off for everyone.

I know you probably don't hear this often but...give it up Beak

It's too bad all the people that could really run the Habs are busy doing talk radio, writing blogs or posting on message boards.

That has to legitimately be one of the dumbest questions I have read on this broad in a long time.
