Stone is a better player, and a good fit with him, no doubt... but the idea that pacioretty doesnt do anything but shoot isnt accurate either.

He had to be able to create a lot to be a multi time 35+ goal guy with desharnais.

As far as driving a line and generating offence as a winger... pacioretty is one of the best in the NHL at that (one of the top 10 by advanced stats). However, it is true that Stone is even better (up in the top 2 or 3)

Maybe early in his career, but as the game got faster Pacioretty's skating became much less of a threat. I also believe he was permanently damaged by the Chara hit. Desharnais and then Radulov were the offensive generators that fed his point totals. Pacioretty hasn't been a creative force in a long time. As for advanced stats, he takes a lot of shots. Technically that's interpreted as generating offence, but in reality Pacioretty's shots often ended sustained pressure, or were harmless because he couldn't break down the defensive system he was facing.

I'm in between on Max P. I think his game gets defined by how long his hot streaks are vs. the droughts. I think his speed allows hi to get to open ice when his shots are going in,but when they're not, he doesn't use it to make d men commit to him. You don't see him going to the net enough.
He looks good right now and he compliments his line well, and he'll probably have his biggest points year ahead of him if he stays with Stone. He'll get 35-40 and ofr thr first time, pile up those incidental assists. In 17-18 he certainly didn't lead on the ice, he faded to the perimeter when things went south, and was quick to shrug things off when asked about it. I think he's probably a good guy, and way too sensitive about stuff. You can't have a guy playing the victim when young players are starting out.

Max will be fine now that VGK has spent 10 million on Stone to drive offence for Max

If Babcock has any say he'd probably give both for Weber.

I said right after the last game that I hoped they’d sign him. Guys like KK, Pa-Ling and Evans are going to see a guy who plays their position and battles all over the ice

In a perfect world they could yo-yo him to Laval on occasion but having him there can’t hurt.
