Yeah. Kid in first grade. About 5-6 minutes of reading. About 15 minutes of some assignment (math or spelling usually). No weekend homework though.

Don’t they have lists of words they need to learn every week with a spelling test? The normal neighborhood school has this too. Math exercises and problems on sheets and on a website they link to. Reading a book per evening. Answering questions on a book per week. Some other special projects too at times.

Nah, it’s a good half hour if she is productive for us. Plus an hour or two on weekends. There is really a good chunk to do.

If Raf had to do an extra 5-7 hours of homework per week right now, he'd definitely need evaluation and therapy.

Its already tough getting through 20-25 minutes 4 times a week.

My old super expensive hippy school didn't give homework until kids were 10 years old. Every study showed that extra work in class is better than work at home.

Of course there were 5 students and 6 teachers so it was easier to focus on a kid. Now its 23 kids, one burnt out helpless daycare worker trying to occupy them.

Maybe a half hour for the retarded kids. :smuglanne:
Also, let's keep this thread about Galchenyuk's on-ice performance, development and value and NOT bring in his personal life or race.

I used to finish the class work in 15 minutes, finish the homework in the next 15 minutes, do the advanced problems in 10 minutes, then fiddle my thumbs for the remaining 20 minutes at school.

Yeah. In grade school I could normally figure out the assignments before they were assigned and do them during the lessons.

There is definately a power struggle going on between those two. It’s mostly a clash of style, though. My wife is diligent and wastes no time, my daughter dilidandles (but still does well). My daughter gives me trouble too, just less so and I think it’s mostly because I’m more patient and less direct.

I ever tell you about that time in daycare when she made this little boy that liked her sit on the floor next to her while she was sitting at the table with her friends? Yeah. She’s growing up to be full of empathy for others, but she will fuck up some poor guy some day.

My daughter’s teachers completeted the assessment the neuropsy asked of them. Some 300 questions of the « rank from 1 to 4 » type and a few open development questions. She has 2 very experienced teachers this year. Their overwhelming conclusions are that my daughter is well organized, motivated, eager to learn, has good grades, gets along with everybody, no impulse control issues, transitions and adapts well (in a school environment where there is always alot going on), etc. Litterally no weak points, other than some propensity to make mistakes due to innatention/some attention issues, but slight and not really problematic.
