I dislike the United Way. While they do some good, I find they are disingenuous about their cost of business.

They claim like 90+% delivery to programs, but those programs also take a cut which is not disclosed. So really they are taking a 9% to distribute money.

United Way seems to survive by forcing employers to force employees to give.

They do have the option now to specify to which charity you want to give, but I think (not sure) that the money only gets earmarked for that charity by UW not that UW doesn't take its cut before distributing.

They also force professional firms to give by restricting their clients ability to give work to non Tier "x" United Way donors.

For example, as part of Hydro Quebec's social responsibility campaigns, they don't give legal work to firms that don't qualify as silver donors to UW.

It's the mob of charity.

Banana is a "corruption" lawyer in the sense that law firms representing mining and oil&gas companies have "environmental" lawyers.

So you're saying Banana works for the forces of corruption, not against them? And hence is miffed at United Way for demanding he pay up in order to help corrupt charities appear less corrupt?

Owned one for 6 1/2 years. Was perfectly happy with it other than a rust problem. They were decent about it, extended the rust warranty to 6 years. Had it repaired just before 6 years and sold it. Dr C likely ended up with it and the rust problem.

Yeah the civic is on par with the 3, but I jumped class as well, for which Mazda doesn't make a comparing product IMO.

Protege->Mazda 3->CRV->Odyssey.

Both of the Honda's were much better cars than the Mazda's comparables.

Haven't been too satisfied with our current Honda/Acuras. Both wife's CRV and my TSX have had their share of issues. Japanese cars can't affort spotty reliability, IMO. If i'm going to tolerate some reliability issues, I'd get much funner to drive German makes.

Mazda-Honda is really a decision on the type of drive you like. Mazdas are a bit more sporty/stiff/nervous than Hondas. Personally, I prefer the way Mazdas drive. That's personal, though. Some people even prefer the soft driving dynamics of Toyotas (even if those people are dead inside).

Our Crv is now 14 years old and still runs like a top with absolutely no major work required so far and now has 240,000 kms on it. Easily the most reliable car I've ever owned.

mazda has comparables for the cr-v, which i never liked. they don't have a minivan anymore though.

honestly, when i had my tribute, i preferred it over the cr-v. i probably would have bought another if they hadn't discontinued the line for the bubble cars they have now (cx-5).

and i hated our odessey. i was happy the day we got rid of it. gutless piece of shit boat that is ugly as well. nice interior though.

I believe Honda reliability has dropped. Car makers generally are much closer together now. Blame globalization/Mexico/China.

if mazda has fixed its rust issues (i'm doubtful about that), then yeah, they are comparable. if they haven't, they are essentially a max 10 year vehicle.
