Only 9 points of difference between the two... and thats a 23 year old vs a 29 year old (who had the best season of his career, and also the highest shooting percentage of his career).

Brassard also had more ice-time.

On points/ice-time basis, Zbad actually produced more.

The big difference here is Brassard is much better defensively. But is that something the 23-year-old is developping in his game? or is it a real measure of difference?

Add to it the Rangers getting out of cap hell, and getting the upgraded pick... I think the Rangers have done really well here.

I don't know why teams keep helping the Rangers get out of cap hell. Is it so they can see which big name free agent will they will overpay next only to be jettisoned in the next go around?

Maybe both get what they want. I see Brassard driving his line. I see Z complimenting linemates. My hope is that it works out for no one.

Brassard is signed for 2 more yrs
Ziba is RFA next year and will cost more, Sens get cost certainty for 2 extra years

yes, some are already saying that Brassard is declining and what he's done the last 2 years is unsustainable...really I think it's time to shut the league down to anyone over 24

If they paid players a reasonable flat rate based on seniority with additional pay based on production at a pre-determined level, hockey players would eventually be filtered out based on poor play.

It wouldn't give 100% cost certainty, but there should be a reasonable correlation between success and costs.

Maybe some possession stats or something, but not those fluffy pretend possession stats.

Brassard is a younger Plekanec. He'll be in that 45-60 pt range for at least another 5-6 years. It's a good trade for the sens. Thing is, it could be a great one for the Rangers.

Its not about decline with Brassard

Its about a player who has never scored 20 goals before suddenly scoring 27 in his 9th NHL season, and whether that's the classic case of a one-year wonder or not. The shooting percentage spike suggests it is.

5 on 5 he is more productive per minute played than Brassard (slightly).
