Vegas was one of few teams that could let go a top prospect - even giving up Suzuki - they still have Cody Glass

They did get arguably the best prospect.

Balcers was #2 and Norris #4 in my ranking of the Sharks top 10 prospects.

That said, San Jose also had the worst system in the NHL, and didn't place a single player on my top 100.

I'll be hanging out here now. It's not the best of times to be a Habs fan, but it sure beats being a Sens fan. I hope the guy who gave his kidney to melnyk kept the receipt.

I was always a part time Habs fan. I grew up a Habs fan, I live in Montreal 6 months in the year... Bergevin is lucky McPhee loses his head sometimes, as it was a beauty of a trade. The Habs look to have a solid base up front, but they need a few more decent prospects on D. A high pick this year and shedding a few veterans at the deadline for prospects should put them firmly on track. Now only patience is needed.

Much appreciated. The need is great. I will come out of this stronger. Or drunker. Probably the latter. I'm gonna aim for the latter.

Still think we need one more truly high end offensive player, a future go to guy. But I wouldn't mind a top D prospect either, the need is there.

Those go-to guys are already with the team, Domi and Drouin will be super stars this season.

You need a gamebreaker on defence. Someone to be to Weber what Robinson was to Savard.

Good base to build upon, top notch quality in the disappointment and shame departments, those are settled. Need to work on victimization and spite, but overall I think you're not a cripple. But let's test it out. I'll say a word and you say a word.

Dorion is like Wilson's little bitch.

Wilson fucks him and dumps him and a couple of weeks later he calls back and Dorion comes a-crawlin' ready to dick-suck his Lost Love.

It breaks my goddamn heart.

According to multiple sources, news are not good regarding Jean-Gabriel Pageau today. Could be out from 4 to 6 months and a surgery to repair a Achilles’ tendon could be necessary. @Senators

Good base to build upon, top notch quality in the disappointment and shame departments, those are settled. Need to work on victimization and spite, but overall I think you're not a cripple. But let's test it out. I'll say a word and you say a word.

The top D is probably coming in this draft, there are two of them available. I'd be happy with another top-flight forward though, it seems like teams are increasingly getting great Ds in the 2nd round.

The Avs are drafting Hughes, not the Snes.

Is that even legal? You’d think at some point incapacity laws would kick in to protect sens management.

It gets worse. They could have chosen to go with 2018 or 2019. And at the draft... They chose to keep the crappy 2018 pick instead of the probably much better 2019 pick.

Don't forget they traded Hoffman for Boedker.

The Habs got a better deal for Pacioretty than the Sens got for Hoffman and Karlsson combined.

Also the Hoffman deals cleared over 4 million in space for the Sharks, money they used today.

Its hilarious.

This isn't a new phenomena. Look at where Norris winners are drafted. Only 4 players (Niedermayer, Pronger, Doughty and Hedman) were top 10 picks amongst the winners in the last 20 years.

Right now, Habs have 10 picks in the 2019 draft.

I'd take a C with our first pick... this draft could have 7 or 8 of the top 10 as Cs. Its really C heavy.

I'd use both my second rounders on Defencemen, plus a bunch of the later picks.

Habs could potentially pick up a D prospect with their trade deadline dumps, or with even more picks they get at the deadline too.

I might have to Nancy Kerrigan more than Drouin now

Well, their pick was like 5th overall. Tough to turn that down. I feel for them a bit. They legit thought they were a piece away from the playoffs and acted on it. In theory they could have backed out of the first round last year, then proceeded to make the same moves and people would mostly be saying it was good of them to recognize the need for a rebuild. Plus they'd still have their first and be all in on the tank this year. That doesn't excuse bad value trades and it doesn't excuse them wrongly thinking they were anything other than awful last year.

Jebus. Almost seems like they are double agents.

Of course not. Especially if they knew they were trading Karlsson. WTF, they thought they would get better without Karlsson?

No, they thought they could be maybe the 7th best team in the East last year, pull in a couple million in playoff revenue, then deal Karlsson now and suck. They were so accidentally bad last year they kept their pick, at the cost of basically a whole year on their rebuild.

Another way of looking at this is they were willing to delay their rebuild by a year on Duchene in order to collect like 2 million in playoff revenue, which didn't work out for obvious reasons. When that didn't work out they threw away their chance at a franchise player for no reason. They can probably recoup some value from Duchene at the deadline, but they ain't getting a top 5 pick back.

you can add Sergachev to that list

OOOH yeah life goes on, long after the thrill of Vinny is gone

It's too bad all the people that could really run the Habs are busy doing talk radio, writing blogs or posting on message boards.

Now, Lajoie is an imbecile, a cretin and a plagiarist, who to use author Dany Laferrière's deliciously withering expression, "lives beyond his intellectual means."

...as serious as a poutine shortage in Chicoutimi during a curling bonspiel...

I'm not sure. How does this year's Seth Jones look in a Spiderman costume? I think a new thread should be started on that topic to really get to the bottom of things. This is the time, this is the place, so we look for the future. But there's not much love to go around. If only there were a thread about it.
