Then shouldn't we win the cup every years?

You need three things to win, forwards, defence, goaltending.

If another team can have Ben Bishop stand on his head, or Henrik Lundqvist play well for 7 games, then other areas like their forwards can be better and win the series for them.

Its all a balancing of the three.

If Price stands on his head and the other team's goalie is average, we'll likely win.

In this series... Rinne is shitting the bed and Murray is playing very well. .. so despite the fact Nashville is controlling the play, it doesn't matter if Pens go 37 minutes without a shot in game 1 and then score on the first shot to take the lead.

This series isn't forwards beating defence.

This series is one goalie beating the other goalie right now.

There's no formula to winning a cup, there's formulas to having great teams though. Strong d, strength down the middle, secondary scoring, goal tending, special teams, pick a few. Pitt seems to have found a way to bring along non star players who can be productive playing with stars. The influence that 87 and 71 have on the game ,imo, is the story, it all revolves around them even when the numbers aren't there. Also, getting the big guys out against the Nash 3rd pairing is a big mis match and they've been able to exploit it.

I went downstairs yesterday morning, probably before 8, was making something to eat. I thought I'd catch 5 minutes of 690, see what was new. Connor Mck asked if they thought that the Preds goal on Monday was called offside because it was PK ? Said he was just putting it out there. Doesn't there have to be some sort of intelligence line that when it's dipped below, the show stops ?

Hornqvist had a goal called back yesterday. I guess people hate him too?

I agree this narrative is silly.

That said this offside challenge is becoming as bad as the toe in the crease bullshit.

You have a theory that (i) is based on a correlation that is not much further refined to isolate variables and does not establish causality in any satisfactory way and, worse, (ii) it is only of mildly predictive power and is frequently contradicted by the data.

THIS IS THE STATE OF YER SCIENCE, BIKOR!

Aka: the game has too many variables in constant and complex interractions that the current state of the science is worse than economics.

Ferraro was wondering why the offside has to be exact when the refs are encouraged to ignore every other infraction in the post season. The bullshit level in thse playoffs is the highest I've ever seen. McLeod side swiping the goalie last night summed up the NHL now. Be a punk, try and injure a sitting duck, and maybe you'll get 2 minutes.

They can't have it both ways, call the rule book or let the players self police. I remember G6 in Ottawa, Methot poking at Crosby, do that in Fergy's day and Methot will be sending his entire family into the witness protection program.

Melnick has become the biggest tool on that station - just mailing it in.

I rarely listen to TSN 690 but I was in the car today . First he starts ridiculing Burke because in his interview with Nilan a) he praised Bergevin b) said the GM job is tough- takes years off your life c) hates the media. Totally classless.

Then in the same breadth he says Preds winning round 1 against the Hawks and Rinne goaling .970 - Preds would of won without Rinne anyways.

Against Pittsburg - they can't win if Rinne doesn't goal better.

So which one is it :why:

What he probably meant is that Rinne was not the main reason why they rolled through the hawks. But now against the pens, he's shitting the bed. I think it's a fair assessment, but I probably give more credit to Rinne against the hawks even though I don't think he stole the series against them, we shouldn't take good goaltending for granted. But yeah, the preds truly just played much better as a team in that series, it wasn't even close.

Really, .971 save percentage and the Hawks outshot the Preds 3 out of 4 games. It;s the only reason.

I actually watched the series and:

"Standing here April 22 is not the way we expected our season to end. And it's a complete failure when you measure it against the expectations that we have of ourselves," Bowman said Saturday. "We did not come even close to reaching the standard we have set over the years here. And that's unacceptable.

"Any successes that we did experience this year are completely overshadowed by the abrupt ending to our season. It's not close to good enough for anybody. And I think it's time right now to take a look in the mirror and face facts."

"It was tough to watch and tough to play in," goaltender Corey Crawford said. "It was pretty embarrassing. Like I said, when you think you could go for another great run and to go out in four games, in a series where I don't even think we were that close, it's definitely not fun."

"For a lot of us, this is probably the worst feeling we've had after any season," said star winger Patrick Kane, who likely will decide this weekend whether to play in the upcoming world championships.

It was the worst beating of this year's playoffs.

I can also predict Not jumping in and saying the change in goaltending quality is the game changer.

I can predict what you'll all say. I could eliminate all of you and not miss a thing. Not that I want to eliminate you all. But i could. Theoretically. Practically too, probably.

Looks like all Nashville needed to do to win a cup is trade Weber for Subban. It is the most significant difference with prior years, so the only variable I can isolate. Good job Poile!

You guys talk about Subban and Rinne all you want, but Juuse Saros has a 1.00 Sv% since the beginning of the playoffs and not getting all the credit.
