My kids weren't breast fed and both my kids are bright. My daughter qualified for the gifted program (top 1% of the kids who wrote the standardized test in the Province), and my son was in the high range of the kids who did not qualify, despite having attention issues.

She's naturally off the charts intense pretty much since she was born, both good and bad. She's hard to pin down. One moment will floor you with something profoundly insightful, the next will behave incredibly immaturely and silly. Also has one heck of a crazy oppositional and hard headed streak. Honestly scares us, like if she can veer off anywhich way and is very difficult to stear.

Iq tests are mostly hoax, that's coming from someone who has a huge iq, especially when the Ritalin kicks in.

Children just need to grow up in a stressless, secure and caring environment, the rest is really up to the way they interact with and see the world.

I'd argue that a stressless, secure and caring environment is likely to produce a mediocre, safe and secure type adult. Those who achieve success in life often faced adversity and learned to not give up in the face of that adversity.

It's not a hoax. It's a pretty good measure of rational thinking and spatial manipulation skills. Big component (half or more) is genetic (which sets the potential) and the rest is environement. Not unlike athletic ability. Now, of course, capacity for rational thinking and spatial manipulation doesn't mean you will "do well" (however you messure that against) or be happy. Lots of other factors contribute, also genetic and environmental. Iq still correlates well with material success though, second biggest predictor after socio-economic factors I believe.

Those who had adversity to overcome, spend their time gloating about it. Those who had it easy try to make it like it was hard for them too.

A bit of struggle is never a bad thing, it builds character, makes you appreciate basic things and gives you a more balanced perspective of life in general.

I think it is stories that we tell ourselves, all my friends who come from wealthy famillies with great parenting are well balanced and performance oriented. Most people i know who come from working class background and had it rough are struggling emotionnaly and have trouble at work.

I wasn't really talking about financial struggle, but since we're in topic I believe it moreso depends on parenting, environment and the individual IMO. If you're poor and your parents nurture resentment of your position, you're most likely to develop those traits that get you stuck in life, and it depends on you if you chose to get rid of that or keep the same mentality. If you're wealthy, money doesn't buy you emotional stability, reason ect., and if you're poor, it doesn't make you a success story in the works neither...There are different people, different struggles and different outcomes.

So the key in my opinion is parenting and coping skills. Money can help, but it doesn't build a person.

People with struggles in their life make up the majority of the top 1% performance sorts. They also make up the majority of the bottom 50% sorts.

So if you want your kid to be a tech Baron or a list celeb or bust abuse them I guess. If you want them to probably be successful and happy, maybe give them a hug every now and then.

Its more about health. First 6 months it has been shown to be beneficial on the tit for allergies and disease prevention. Again through 12 months. Milk the wife till shes nearly dead then switch when she passes out ready to die.

Win win.

You really aren't much of a replacement.
