I like to listen to Joe the way I enjoy my racist uncle's rants.

Jordy is defending the most savage forms of capitalism by comparing Jeff Bezos to a giant star (l'astre). Almost every time he opens his mouth he's fallacious and dishonest. It may surprises you but I agree to a couple of his position but overall he's a charlatan.

Zizek is more interesting in his writen work, he's just an attention whore when there's a camera. Also he's talking mostly from a psychoanalysis perspective, wich is charlatanisme in its purest form, especially the Lacan kind.

Your passion is commendable, Sliquety.

Some guests are interesting (I really dug the weird mushroom guy), most are rambling fucks, and there's a small portion of them whom I find profoundly repulsive (young conservatives, like the one that had the "CHANGE MY MIND" table/booth, for example).

Have you listen to Candice whatever, supposedly a conservative rising star? She's spend her time spewing reactionnary bullshit, she seems very high on coke and can't defend any of her points if he ask questions about it. If you haven't listen to it, move along it's worst than everything.

There could be, at least in developped countries. Most developped countries have birthrates below what’s needed to maintain population. You’re likely to have population plateaus and even decreases in the coming decades.

Not a fan of Musk’s philosophying, though. He tends to take a trend and project it to catastrophe. He’s an alarmist to a large extend.

I think demographics tend to self adjust. High birth rates in societies with high death rates and vice versa. When an organism gains an advantage, its numbers explode but then level off. Developed countries have certainly levelled off and many developping countries are showing signs of it as well. It’s mainly just Africa that still has runaway birth rates, for obvious reasons.

I don’t think that’s catastrophic, though. If drops are too pronounced, living standards will drop and we’ll respond with increased birth rates. Probably already seeing beginings of it with « pro-family » policies increasingly adopted in developped countries.

Well, developping countries are also starting to level off as well and more immigration leads to natives going batshit crazy. You can count on immigration to some extent, which we do.

As for impact of declining populations, it’s not great but also not catastrophic (outside of alarmist charts suggestion we’ll all disapear). I don’t believe that. I Think we’d respond by having more unprotected sex. It’s not great either, though. Leads to stagnating/regressing economies.

Overall, on my list of concerns, this is fairly low. I’m more concerned about why I’m a piece of energy grids interacting, for the time being.

Developping countries have certainly levelled off and many developping countries are showing signs of it as well.

Even if we start making more babies, we won't be able to simultaneously take care of the elderly, our kids and further our knowledge/economy. Something's gotta give. We're talking about 2 more generations, it's something we have to deal with sooner than later. And I don't think massive immigration can solve that either as it comes with it's own challenges. My guess is that we'll start making babies in incubators or something like that.

but seriously, one thing that keeps bugging me: how the heck do we keep freaking out about robots stealing our jerbs and running out of people to do jerbs?

We simultaneously freak out about future excess labour and labour shortages. Like, pick one, people!
