So Melynk is musing about other downtown sites, as though there any available.

I don't think Kanata is the worst spot in the world for the Sens to play but now that Melynk managed to alienate both the people who live downtown and in the west end we are left with not much of a fanbase to draw from. It's too bad that Ottawa is about to get a bad rap for its attendance since I think things would be a lot better with better management. The CFL got turned around, hopefully the Kanata Senators could too.

It was interesting that Melynk's press release used the term "central location" instead of "downtown". That could mean anywhere between Nepean and Gloucester.

Not that there are any empty plots big enough for a NHL arena in that area either. So I predict that Melnyk will demand that the city pave over Dow's Lake, build an arena, and give it to him for free.

Anderson: "We can't just fold the tent"
Dorion: "Because I've already put it in storage last week"
Melnyk: "You bought them a tent?!"

I think Boucher was fired because ownership/management is panicking over the fans' refusal to believe in the existence of the rebuild.

Just listened to Dorion's presser. Sounds like Melnyk wants wins, Dorion thinks the current roster can deliver wins, and Marc Crawford is the leading candidate going forward. Absolutely delusional.

Fraser played a season in Bingo. Apparently, unlike other NHL teams, the Senators didn't like to (or couldn't) spend money at the AHL level. The example he gave in his CBC radio interview was that the team bus kept breaking down on the road so the team was always late.

Insane place, but at least it's interesting. I like watching these things tail spin but I do worry that the young guys will suffer setbacks and or get ruined. I don't like the dressing room talk from Dorion saying they expect wins. That's rude and wrong.

I will say Guy was interesting. Everyone must feel bad for him as he was left hanging. I'm guessing tonight he'll actually feel better to get out of there. You can say Boucher was stubborn, but he did major changes I will say. He had such a great defensive system that no team could figure him out in year one and he almost won a Cup. That summer every team studied the Senators game plan and figured out to chip the puck past the pinching left D and you'll get a 2 on 1. Guys plan was over at the point.

He came back this year with an absolute opposite game style. I've never seen that before and commend him as he was getting pressure from the upper guys to not be so boring as ticket sales were suffering. He literally put together a game plan that they scored almost the most goals in the league for the first bunch of games lol. They couldn't keep them out which was the problem.

I've never seen a coach change his style so much, but ultimately playing his shitty vets too much is what cost him.

Dorion with a real dick move to Guy, though. That's bad, saying he was safe yesterday and firing him today. So weird you have to think Eugene is behind it.

I just find it sad at this point. Dorion and Melnyk have destroyed the team and they're blaming the coaches and a bunch of kids and grinders. How does Pierre look himself in the mirror.

Even he looked frazzled in his interview today. Tie and hair both askew... it is hitting him. You're right though, there's nothing to feel sorry for there. If you're willing to openly lie, especially when it's so obvious, it's hard to be respected...

The NCC's new Lebreton plan is to divide Lebreton into parcels, spread the parcels out over different time phases, and to hold a competition for the development of each parcel. The NCC said they are open to including an "event center" in one of the phases, but it isn't necessary for the future of Lebreton. The first parcel getting done is a few acres near the new central library site with the RFP going up late 2019/early 2020 - meaning construction won't begin until 2021 at earliest.

Not for Melnyk. The parcelizing means it will be much more difficult for Melnyk or a developer partner to subsidize the cost of the arena by selling condos and commercial space. Also, if a developer were to win a parcel bid and then reneg on their financial commitments and demand public money for their project, then it will be much easier for the NCC to cancel the project since it only effects one parcel of land, not the entire flats.

But it might be good news for the Senators. If the team gets sold in the next several years than there will still be land for an arena to bid on in Lebreton.
