Much better than two teams getting screwed out of the chance to get first overall, and Detroit getting a 57% chance for the top pick. It would still be better to have the lottery for all three top picks.

Is that equal odds at No. 1?

So the good news is we could get to pick 1st and 2nd overall, the bad new is now we will likely fall to 5th and 6th....

How did these bottom teams ever agree no tv games without improved lotto odds? I'm guessing cash was involved....

The chances of Ottawa winning the lottery are 25%, the chance of one of the eight playoff teams winning is 24.5%.

Lafreniere is going to look great playing with Crosby.

So if the Isles lose to Fla, and get the 8th pick, and we win the lottery and SJ wins the 2nd pick. We end up with 1st, 2nd, and 8th overall. That would be pretty nifty.

Can Ottawa actually use all its draft picks?

From a San Jose blog - I am confused

“Another player is the Ottawa Senators, and it might break Pierre Dorion’s brain if Doug Wilson swindles him a third time, so the market is pretty bare. If anything, the Buffalo Sabres organization appears to be having a difficult time right now and we’re living through a global pandemic, so anything is possible.”

Trading a 4th for a CERB payment is just fiscally prudent.

Looking at this further, you do have to be pleased with Ottawa's situation.

the mystery team thing sucks (I hope it's Pheonix) but after that:
- LA is loaded with forward prospects, with little on the back end. They especially have a lot of forward strenght, so curious if they take a positional need
- Ottawa gets a top 3 pick
- depending on what others do, they can do whatever the fuck they want at 5
- they still have another 1st and a lot of seconds, and prospect capital.
- Melnyk doesn't get to be fully happy
- odds are Islanders pick is around 15-20, so that gives Ottawa a great chance.

not too bad. I'm happy with one of Stutzle/Byfield, and from there they can't really go wrong. I do hope they plan for a Rundblad situation where someone doesn't pan out, but... even Chabot, Thomson, JBD, plus everyone else seems like a better starting point than when I was happy some random Russian player had a blog.

Hossa has another year on his contract. I wonder what pick it would take to get him.

Where did you hear that? They might end up with just one pick if things don't go right.

Tom Fitzgerald mentioned it in a post draft conference call, but yeah i think it depends how their other picks fall

We need the Isles to lose their play-in round VS Florida, then have them not win the lotto. Could end up with a 9th to 15th pick...

Not sure if it's accurate, but speculation points to Detroit wanting either Perfetti or Drysdale.

I'd be ok with the top D going quickly. Not sure how teams draft (BPA, or need?)

It doesn't really matter since we know Dorion prefers to go for reaches to make himself look SMRT. I'd be blown away if that #5 ended up anywhere near the consensus top picks.

Dorion better not reach at 5, sure swing for the fence with the Isles pick, but take the concesus top players at 3 and 5.

Everything I’ve read suggests tiers of players.

Lot depends on what Detroit and LA want, I could see them going for a D but that might be wishful thinking.

Askarov at 10 or something would be fun if there’s 2 top prospects in the bag, but I’m more wondering how they can hold so many picks. Eventually they gotta move some later picks no?

If Drysdale is available at 5, I think we should take him, but I doubt Detroit passes on him.

[AJ Jakubec] from TSN1200 made a few calls around the league on the weekend. He's convinced LA is taking Stutzle at 2. - radio

I worry about Byfield getting the Ray Emery treatment in Ottawa...but really he's a better bet than Stutzle.

I’m all in on forwards, but would never be upset with a D.

Ottawa does seem poised to gamble later, maybe that’s just Hendrix Lapierre though
