Gudbranson has a cap hit of $4 million and a real salary of $3 million.

And he is a local boy.

It's becoming an NHL team's defence at least. They need to bridge the gap until Thomson, JBD, Sanderson can come up.

That pay rise in the last two years means they either intend to trade him or lose him in the expansion draft.

Brent Wallace said on the TEAM that Duclair asked for 5 years, 5 million per.

So that answers why he wasn't resigned, still no answer why he wasn't traded.

Makes trading for Josh Brown a win. Brown will be every bit as good of a player but cheaper.

It probably doesn't hurt that it will take the league a couple years for league wide revenue to recover.

Personally I feel this is the typical wait and see signing. Maybe this will be another Craig Anderson or maybe this will be Martin Gerber or Pascal LeClair all over again.

Last I checked nobody wants him. So there is your reason right there. Greg might argue otherwise.

Still think he crawls back to us on a $2.5M show me contract...

I think you're overstating it MP. I assume that Duclair knows that he's nobody's first choice on the UFA market. It makes sense to wait it out while the more attractive guys get signed first, and then see if anyone is willing to pay a little extra to get him so they don't come away empty-handed.

Even if he can't find a contract better than what the Sens offered him, I very much doubt he comes back to Ottawa. I think your first guess (that he goes to Europe) is more likely.

I don't get making hay over the self representation thing. Lots of folks get family to do it, and having an agent isn't really going to stop a player from wanting what they want? :dunno:

Brown's agent should have asked for $4.538 instead of $4.8M... Dumb. If I'm the arbitor, I'm awarding $4,538,999...and say you guys figure it out.

This is good news.

The Ceci trade worked out pretty well. We were in a good position to take on a bad contract and got pretty good value out of a depreciating asset.
