Paquette too now. I guess we're loading up on veteran depth players after all.
Shame about Nilsson, but the writing was on the wall for him. Hope he gets healthy again.

Sadly, Martin Gaborik never achieved the same success in Ottawa as fellow Slovak Peter Bondra.

I like it, swap a second to a better year, move out LTIR stuff, and add some content that can be flipped out if successful.

Sens seem to be poised to take advantage of the taxi squad, and will be utter dicks. I expect a lot of PIMs

Chabot is not practicing, unclear if he was murdered by logan brown.
that's also a lot of money for Colin White on the uh... 5th line/taxi squad? Then again, playing with Galchenyuk? I dunno. :shrug.
Surprised (pleasantly) at that top 6, way better than it has been in ages.

Re: Miss Callaneous' Senatorial Grabuge 2
I have been wondering where the seeming glut of centres would leave Colin White, since they went all in on that contract and presumably want a bounce back year from him.
In other news, the Sens are trailblazers once again:

Adios Max Lajoie, you overachieved until you didn't. It was a nice little streak.
Logan Brown is now the only asset remaining from that 2016 draft.

No Logan Brown, no Formenton, no Brannstrom on the starting roster. I haven't been following camp at all, except to hear that Brannstrom had to quarantine. I assume we'll see them all at some point. I guess we loaded up on veterans to make them earn their spots?

Re: Miss Callaneous' Senatorial Grabuge 2
Frankie Seravalli is on board the Josh Norris hype train. Either that or he was desperate to find something 'bold' and positive to say about our team's upcoming season.

Josh Norris will lead the Ottawa Senators in scoring. The reigning AHL Rookie of the Year will take a serious run at the Calder Trophy for NHL rookie of the year on a line with Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson.

if norris is on a line with batherson all year, they would split calder votes and have not shot at it. :positivity:

they put together a roster for covid times with some extra bodies, and gave Norris, Batherson, Stutzle, Paul roster spots. I think Brannstrom would have made it had he been able to practice, and then they sent the rest to the AHL. Dunno, just not upset about balcers?

Thats crazy. Hard not to like Brent Wallace. He did his job well i thought, and I really liked when he stepped up to melnyk during that outdoor game debacle. So many ass kisses in the Ottawa media, I always felt Brent was down the middle and fair.
Kind of strange, I can't remember when he wasn't TSNs senators guy.

So Pittsburgh can have a president of hockey ops and have 9 people in to interview for a GM position and our front office is devoid of change. Surprise Surprise

The autistics statistics enthusiasts on twitter are furious. But he is 26 years old and has played 58 games over 4 seasons so he can't be considered a raw prospect anymore.

Re: Miss Callaneous' Senatorial Grabuge 2
Pierre Groulx, the goaltending coach, has been moved to scouting and development. Which I assume is cheaper than firing him.
Zac Bierk, the goaltending development coach for the Coyotes and the goaltending coach for DJ Smith's 2015 Oshawa Generals, has been hired as the new goaltending coach.
So, the bad goaltending was the result of bad coaching not bad management. Everything is fixed now.

This is a million dollar question. I cannot figure it out. First I had him marked as a tweener better suited for the minors. Then he showed some improvement a bit and I was intrigued. But I'm still not convinced that he's a top-6 NHL centre.
God we're weak at the centre position. Colin White will probably max out as another Chris Tierney. Clark Bishop is simply awful. Anisimov has just enough hands to provide hints of what Dadonov might be able to do with a decent playmaking centre.
Our poor wingers. The analysts keep talking about Brady's high shot count. It's because Brady is forced to create most of these chances on his own. With the team's overall lack of offensive creativity, they are mostly predictable, stoppable chances. But he just keeps shooting because that's what he knows how to do. There's a reason Connor Brown is now tied for the team lead in goals. He's a simple north-south player who doesn't need a skilled centreman to score goals when he gets hot. Same reason Dzingel got hot after coming over. I bet they slap an 'A' on Brown's chest after this season.
If Stützle can switch back to centre in the future that should help a lot. For now he reminds me a lot of rookie Spezza. But DJ doesn't have the luxury that Martin had with Spez - i.e. scratching or benching him for weak defensive play. He needs his skill logging regular minutes.

Norris had another awful game tonight. The guy is skilled but so soft, especially along the boards.
Do we have an equipment manager anymore? Seemed like our guys were blowing tires all over the ice tonight.

Re: Miss Callaneous' Senatorial Grabuge 2
I've been impressed with Norris only because he's basically been the 1st line center all year.
I thought it would last 3 games. Its tough to play those #1 minutes at such a young age and on a weak team, and I have to say I wouldn't have bet a dollar he'd still be there in April. He has warts yes, but he certainly can score. Ottawa has had so many skilled guys that couldn't naturally score. I will say he does have that scoring ability which I'll take.
Long term, he'll play more depth I'd guess on this soon to be very deep team, but he's fared better than I thought game in game out with no NHL experience.
Connor Brown setting the franchise record in consecutive games with a goal has to be the most insane thing I've seen in hockey in a long time. Right up there with a zamboni driver beating the leafs. I just can't believe it.
He's a miss an open net guy in the franchise form of the legends of missing goals, Chris Kelly and Erik Condra. Zero scoring touch on all three of them and Connor Brown goes and buries 7 straight.
Honestly, it's shocking.

When Kyle Turris came over from Phoenix he was only a little older than Norris is now. And he slotted in nicely in a sheltered #2 spot behind Spezza.

Re: Miss Callaneous' Senatorial Grabuge 2
Reilly gone for a 3rd, which is more than the 5th we gave up for him.
Not really an NHLer on a good team, but he wasn't quite so bad once they paired him with Zub, who really seems like a keeper if he can be persuaded to re-sign.
Brannstrom has looked green this year, but the kid's gotta play, so this will be good for him too.
Probably means more action for Josh Brown over the next couple weeks, and they also brought in Goloubef as another warm body. But is there a chance we see JBD get a taste of NHL action as well?
