Yeah he's untradable.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt for years but with all the players he didn't mesh with the answer or problem is probably Ryan himself. Four separate centers don't gel with him...sounds like he's the issue.

I can't see a trade possible, but maybe a new team would want some skill. You think back to when Ottawa started, there were just scrubs available. To get a expensive player with apparent potential would give a team something to think about if they wanted to ice a competitive team off the bat.

He just seems out of shape personally. Either that or just plain weak. You'll see him hustle for a 30 second burst working hard once a game, and afterwards he looks completely gassed, like if one of us did the shift. He just doesn't have that extra gear. Not sure if it's physical or mental or just not powerful. I'd love to see him play a Hossa style game. He isn't as fast but he could be the same size if he worked on bulking up. With his hands and vision he'd be hard to play against down low and in the offensive zone. Opposition would have to respect his stick skills and give him a bit more space - if he ever played like a guy who made space for himself.

Only possibility I'm wondering about is if the Las Vegas team wants an American "star." Given their probably only getting scrubs, if they can get a face they may be able to get their investment back through non hockey return in investment.

Probably not very likely, depends on them wanting to use that marketing strategy and also not being able to get someone better

Yeah Ryan won't be traded and he isn't going to change as a player.

Apart from exposing him to Vegas, there is not really much to be done with him at the moment. His huge contract shouldn't give us cap or budget problems for at least another year or two, so there's no rush to be rid of him. And he is still an important contributor, even if his contribution doesn't match his price tag. Also seems like a likeable guy.

Worst case scenario at this point would be such a falling out with Boucher that we see a publicly reported trade request, Heatley style.

Hey we just picked up a new 3rd/4th line forward, with the fine name of Wingels. Time to send Lazar back to Bingo! Or scratch Kelly or something.

Cyril Leeder booted to the curb by Melnyk. Didn't see that coming. I'll have to read up on the new guy.

I once talked to a guy who owned a company that you have seen advertise on the CTC boards. He pulled his ads a few years back simply because he says Leeder was such a dick to deal with.

Garrioch speculates that the low attendance was the reason Leeder fired.

Melnyk said that he thought about replacing Leeder when they won the Lebreton bid, that the search for a new president took several weeks, that Tom Anselmi was chosen last week, and that Leeder was informed yesterday.

It's just nice to freshen things up. The Senators didn't exactly have a cutting edge feel to them in the last 15 years. I'm all for a house cleaning at times.

The old guys resume seems pretty deep in terms of getting buildings built.

On the one hand - it's kind of a testament to how liked and capable Leeder is that he lasted so long... on the other hand it's kind of weird how he got shoved out the door. Business is business but I would hope they gave him ample time: "we are replacing you" and then confirmation yesterday "we signed this guy and you will be stepping down/fired".

It's not impossible, and unlike a guy like Phaneuf, Bobby Ryan still has some marketing appeal, and is likely to be one of the best forwards (talent and production-wise, not value-wise) available. But I think everybody's guessing as to what Vegas will do. Ryan would probably pass through waivers unclaimed at this point, but Vegas has a blank slate and will also have lots of cheap, talented prospects available as well. Wishful thinking but not impossible.

Will be interesting to see how the Neil career-end plays out.

Personally I would have traded him at the deadline before his current deal was signed. I can't remember what was the last year he was useful? 2012 maybe?

This could be a long painful sit for him as this is certainly his last NHL season.

Hammond to start tonight against St. Louis. If he can actually get through 60 minutes it will end Condon's remarkable run at 27 consecutive games. Anderson is expected to get a start over the next week as well.

I talked some shit about Condon last month but he's done pretty well since then, and overall he has done everything you can ask and may have saved our season. I'd hate to lose him at this point. I still don't think he ever becomes a legit starter, but the potential is there, and either way I don't think he's a flash in the pan like the Hamburglar.

Poor Hammer is as good as gone.

It's such a what have your done for me lately business. While I don't believe Hammond to be that good, he was simply in some kind of zone for that run. We'll never see another one like that. You don't really get to take it all in as it's happening, but it would be nice if someone edited a two hour video on that seasons run. The late game comebacks and the games played by Hammond were a treat to watch. It's a bit of a blur. I'd love to see a recap.

Just shows the mental side of goaltending. He was a different person then. He'll probably let in 6 tonight, but for a couple months he was on another level. Hopefully that was enough to at least keep food on the table for him for the next 5-6 years. He'll bounce around many leagues I'm guessing.

The question with Hammond is can we find someone to pick up his 1.3M contract or will we buy him out? I can't see us keeping him in the minors.

I doubt anyone would be interested. He hasn't been able to establish himself as a viable backup in the last two years.

My bet is they thank him for his services and buy him out.

And this, hopefully, is why the Senators won't be making any big acquisitions before the deadline:

The belief is, the Avs want Ottawa defenceman Cody Ceci, a first-round pick in 2017, along with one of the club’s two blue-chip prospects — Saint John blueliner Thomas Chabot or Boston College centre Colin White — plus a couple of other parts in return for Duchene or Landeskog.

Ceci, White, and a 2017 1st for a 24 year-old Landeskog? I might make that move. I haven't watched him play the last couple years though. He's locked up at a $5.571 M cap hit until 2021, which is not bad.

I was a big Landeskog fan when he came into the league. If not for Anderson we were looking at a possible top-3 pick in 2011, and he was exciting. As a rookie he reminded me of a young Alfie, only with more size.

Judging by the numbers he seems to have stagnated this year. Obviously the team is struggling. But I haven't heard anything about his overall play or attitude.

I wouldn't make that move for Duchene though. Obviously he's skilled but I never really liked the way he plays.

Anyway sounds like neither will happen, which I'm fine with. White is a good prospect. I think Boucher is doing great with Ceci. And a 1st is a 1st.

Feel good story about Craig Anderson's wife visiting CHEO today.

After years of revolving door goaltenders, it's so strange to find myself emotionally attached to Anderson. In a way it's nice that his various injuries and personal issues have allowed that fine Senators tradition to continue in some way, through our flings with Bishop, Hammond, and now Condon. But to be able to come home to a stabilizing force in goal at the end of the day? It still feels weird.

Bobby Ryan out indefinitely with another finger injury. TSN is saying 3-6 weeks.

What a forgettable season for him. We can only hope for better next year, because I can't see him going anywhere.

Maybe Lazar gets more opportunities out of this. He could really use something to feel good about this year.

Or maybe Dorion pulls the trigger on a deal now.

Trouba got 2 games. One of the rationales that Player Safety used for that low amount of games was "no injury". That, plus the fact that Stone traveled with the team, suggests that Stone might play tomorrow.

Also, Claesson got a 1 year, 1 way extension at $650k.
