So Boro doesn't suck now?

Post #1 by The Bytown Boozer » Fri Nov 10, 2017 4:24 am

You read the news? Have you seen this?

For the record: most of Ottawa's good defenders throughout the years were terrible throughout their first 2-3 years. Anton Volchenkov is patient zero when it comes to this.

Anyways, post yr D pairings. I'm curious to see if anyone includes Oduya.

I don't get it.

But Oduya has been pretty bad so far.

Wideman is garbage. He seems to have a lot of value with the analytics community, which doesn't really say anything. He's so light, he gets knocked off the puck in the defensive zone and isn't fast enough for a small player to avoid those situations.

I don't hate Ceci as much as most Twitter users do, and I don't like him as much as Senators management. I'm somewhere in between. He's young but that's about where it ends for me. Not great with the puck, really a train wreck. He's a guy that I wonder if he can clap his hands and chew gum at the same time. He can do either very well, but not both at once. Substitute skating and stick-handling with chewing gum and clapping and you have Ceci.

Boro. I don't know what to think. I do feel they value him because of Boucher's system. He needs a guy will to sacrifice his body on the left D position. That's his system, as he wants to force the right winger before the opposition can get into Ottawa's zone. Boro has played well in that aspct and that system allows him to lead the league in hits. He also misses often and puts himself out of play, but you do know opposing teams discuss that with their players. We've seen a lot of right side players hear footsteps and give the puck away because of it.

I really miss Methot. He also worked well on that Left D kamikaze style that Boucher plays. Methot had the body to hit players and also the reach to knock plays down...and if he got caught on that left D pinch, he had the wheels to get back. He worked well in Guy's style of play.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that Wideman is garbage. Compare him now to the time he originally got called up from the AHL. Over the past 2-3 seasons he has been Ottawa's most improved defenseman.
