Selling price in Toronto dropped 18.whatever% since April. Currently up only %5 over last year. Next month will be worse.

This is also data from TREB, who counts accepted offers as sales. A lot of people are right now seeing buyers unable/unwilling to close on properties. The listing vs. sales numbers are also way out of whack - nobody is buying anymore.

Anecdotally the dude across the street from me sold his house for $1.1M back in April. Few weeks ago was the closing date, buyers backed out last minute. He's re-listed his home for ~$890k but nobody is buying. No offers, open houses in the area are frequently without any traffic. Shit's drying up - and we could be about to fall off the cliff.

Thanks, Justin.

Who? I don't think anyone here bought homes for more than they really should have, nor do I think anyone is swimming in loads of HELOC debt.

We're basically the smartest of the Leafs fans, so I'm not surprised.

So far it's barely even a correction, and that's on the back of a one-time glut in supply from people trying to time the market. Listings are way down, which should stabilize prices before long. In the end, it'll be like Vancouver. A small correction followed by a recovery.

If the debt position of the population were precarious, you'd hope the BoC wouldn't have risked dropping the biggest city in the shitter.

Pretty much the only tool the government has at its disposal to combat private indebtedness is to raise interest rates.

They don't have to follow the US, it's got more to do with economic growth rate and inflation. But those things are so closely tied to how the US is doing that things tend to be more or less in line anyway.

Indeed, but it's a delicate balance. Neutering consumer demand and forcing huge numbers of defaults isn't a good idea with growth finally coming around in Ontario/Toronto. We have consumer debt problem here (plus super low savings) and the BoE seems to have opted for leaning on the banks to tighten up their lending policies and not encourage so much borrowing. The trouble is that the meagre growth we've had in the past few years has been almost entirely on the back of consumer spending. The gov't have been deficit hawks and have chosen the path of fuelling the economy with private debt over gov't debt for political reasons. Unless they're willing to invest in the economy again (end austerity) once tge consumer runs out of money, we're fucked. That's not even figuring in Brexit, mind you. Demand is already slowing...

My original point was merely that I assume the BoC were cogniscent of the debt load but knew they coukd bump the rate without damage. They'll let things settle then decide whether to bump again in six months to a year probably.

Fixed rate mortgages are tied to Canadian bonds (long term), Canadian bonds are tied to US bond prices.

The Bank of Canada does'nt really get to decide when the overnight rate should go up or down but they can hold off following along for a little while, one of the consequences of doing this is the Canadian dollar taking a dive.

Auction based renewable energy procurement is really interesting. Some of the results in driving down renewable energy costs in other countries is pretty staggering. Really makes you realize how fucked up our Ontario government is with the way we've developed our renewable energy sector. God damned Wynnie.

Ontario's energy portfolio has been mishandled going back decades.

This in today: $5.3 trillion/year (2015) in global fossil fuel subsidies, totalling about 6.5% of global GDP. Now that's what I call a gravy train.

These really aren't the kind of assholes any political party should want to be associated with, let alone tacitly condoning their behaviour by not strongly condemning it:

State of emergency declared as white supremacists, neo-Nazis, KKK clash with protesters in Virginia town

You are a racist for talking about these extremists that killed innocent people out of hate like the terrorists do. I'm going to have to agree with Trump that these people are nothing but bigots that cite him as the reason why they act this way, cowards tend to blame everything but themselves for their actions. This story sounds awfully familiar.

Yeah it's only white people and the west, and Canadians that live too close to the US border that do these things.

Fascists armed with assault rifles show up to a rally to defend a statue of a guy who fought for slavery. A HWhite Christian terrorist kills a peaceful protester while trying to kill more. Videos emerge of Nazis beating a black man with sticks. The President signally fails to come out against the White Supremacists, probably because he knows they're right when they say - as David Duke did - that they're a big reason he won.

BUT...BUT...BUT...WHATABOUT BLM?

Given the perfect opportunity to condemn literal neo-Nazis and Klansmen, Captain Canada and cucki decide to deflect instead. What a shocker. Unite the Right, eh?

A friendly reminder: patriots (Canadians and Americans alike) fought the Nazis.

Well, it's a difficult choice between being cucked by the hardcore right or admitting you had a part to play in soft-pedalling their shit and emboldening them. They merely openly express the hard kernel of the populist nativism "conservatives" have lapped up recently. They've merely reached the logical conclusions from it before the cucks.

Very good on the Republicans sticking their necks out on this.

Still not seeing a condemnation of the neo-Nazis and bigots who've chosen to embed themselves into modern conservative movements but nice use of Trumps' "many sides" deflection. You may have lied (possibly even to yourself) about not being a social conservative but at least you weren't lying when you said you would've preferred voting for Trump, cucki.

You may have lied (possibly even to yourself) about not being a social conservative but at least you weren't lying when you said you would've preferred voting for Trump, cucki.

you are so tiny, in every conceivable way imaginable. you throw out insults and condemnation no different than those idiot skinheads do. you're just too stupid to realize how much of a hypocrite you are.
Trump was exactly right in calling out all sides in what went on yesterday. like it or not super sleuth those skinheads have a right to free speech. you can choose not to listen too it or you can act like the idiot counter protesters did and go out and throw social justice idiot gas on the fire.
stop being such a fucking simpleton. open your eyes.

One group has the right to assemble, protest and of free speech. The other is there only to throw gas on the fire. Guess which group murdered people in the other group.

Fellas, maybe we should cut cucki some slack? It was probably a late flight back from Virginia after trying to refund his tiki torch at the nearest Walmart.

Also, it's a right to peaceful assembly. Running over someone because their views differ from yours sure as fuck isn't peaceful assembly. If anything, it's close to what the terrorist asshats have been doing in Europe.
