I have had a busier year, but even on my down days I have not had that urge to watch a game start to finish. In the past I'd watch em even if they were getting stomped.

Having downtime is definitely a big part of it for me. Starting a company on the side and working full time puts me around 70 hours a week.

We'll always have that slider to end game five. : )
Also, let's keep this thread about Galchenyuk's on-ice performance, development and value and NOT bring in his personal life or race.

Prospects aren't bad from reaction ive been reading. The trade had me at Giles. He's electric. Just has been struggling. Its an otay deal. Sucks to lose Osuna (the player) tho.

Wow, that's a pretty outstanding trade considering they had to get rid of him. Surprised they were able to get this much. Giles was one of the best relievers in the game and gives them an actual closer again. Perez, according to Fangraphs, is Houston's 5th best prospect. Paulino is youngish (24) minor league depth.

5. Hector Perez, RHP
Signed: July 2nd Period, 2014 from Dominican Republic
Age 21 Height 6’3 Weight 190 Bat/Throw R/R
Tool Grades (Present/Future)
Fastball Slider Curveball Splitter Command
60/70 50/60 45/50 40/55 30/45

Perez wields electric stuff but is a maddeningly inconsistent strike-thrower. His ability to work with any kind of efficiency began to wane after a dominant April and May, and worsened as the season aged into the summer. Perez doesn’t have great feel for a regular release point, and his pitches sail or spike well short of the plate. This glaringly inhibits Perez’s ability to throw strikes and also dilutes the quality of his secondary stuff. He’s well built, explosive, and appears to be athletic, so there’s hope that this will improve with time.

Even if Perez grows into 40-grade control, he’s probably a dominant reliever at that point because he has four plus-flashing pitches. His fastball sits in the mid-90s, touches 98, and you could argue it plays up because hitters don’t see the ball out of Perez’s hand very well. He blew it past hitters up in the zone much of last year and it projects as a plus-plus pitch, especially if Perez is moved to the bullpen. He also has a plus-flashing slider that has cutter action at the knees and above, but downward bite beneath the strike zone. The latter is much more effective. Perez’s split-change flashes plus but too often tumbles in well beneath the strike zone and doesn’t entice hitters. Perez’s spike curveball misses bats, too, and he flips it in for called strikes at times, but he doesn’t get on top of it consistently. If he can find some semblance of mechanical consistency, all four pitches could be dominant. If not, he’ll be a frustrating relief piece. The likely outcome is somewhere in the middle.

Giles is essentially the same reliever as Osuna, but with worst control and more strikeouts. Pretty great return all things considered.

Dozier has been bleh this year, but he is only a year removed from b2b 5+ WAR seasons so not a bad gamble.

I haven't paid much attention to Giles, but the stats say 3 walks in 30 innings? His problem appears to be that he is getting hit.

Vlad Jr walks his first 2 PA in Buffalo.
Jansen has a 3 run HR.
Beautiful.

However they're still losing 8-3 in the 3rd. Tepesch has been shit.

Ryan Borucki is another gift from Alex Anthopoulos. Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins are nowhere near his level.

Borucki was drafted 6 years ago. Not that you will, but some time should be given to see on their drafting. They also did get Bichette and Biggio in their first draft.

Of course they're going to be given some time. Just like I preached time for Antho when he drafted. Baseball drafts are crazy unpredictable.

They’ll offer him one. The preference is to trade him as whatever they get will be worth more than the pick. Personally I wouldn’t mind rolling with him and Vlad next year.

The story went dark for a bit, at least to me, and it seemd like a QO was a no brainer until all of a sudden he's a prime late trade candidate? Maybe a that was just Sportsnet marketing him, but I'm with you... Hell, maybe he needs to DH more anyway.

If he has value now, I'd have to think the same value would be around next year at least. Or at least enough to justify rolling the dice to see what can happen if he's around and healthy next year.

I actually realize now that the restaurant is the one overlooking the Rogers Centre from the hotel, so you get to watch the game, so that explains the prices.

The way vladjr is getting developed gives me a lot of confidence. I like how the management group doesn't give a shit about the demands to call him up. Be so easy to sell tickets with him, but the long term plan is being stuck to and... Sure vlad might have been fine this year, but the jays are better off in the long term without him. As much as I'd love for someone to save gibby, long term should be the only focus right now.

You combine that with what's looking like great drafting and a fantastic ideology in regards to management philosophies...sure this year is a write off, but that was always the deal when they opened that window a bit wider with price. Despite the fucking Yankees and sox having a tn of quality youth... Can't help but get the sense e jays will have a window open in less than 20 years

Next year will probably suck though...

Next year should be the youth movement with guys like Pompey, Alford, Smith Jr., Urena, Gurriel, Jansen, and Reid-Foley really pushing for spots. Bichette and Vladdy should get regular time but I imagine they’ll be cautious with Bo and move him to AAA before he even gets a call-up.

No idea how they’d fit everyone in unless a bunch of offseason trades went down. With everyone healthy (ha!!) the OF is Grichuk, Hernandez, and Pillar so there’s room for Pompey, Alford, or Smith Jr. to grab a regular spot. Infield, though is crowded as hell: Smoak, Travis, Diaz, Tulowitzki, and Solarte. And there’s a chance JD accepts the qualifying offer. That’s part of the reason, Bo will be in AAA. That Vlad had never lined up at 1B really pigeon-hole’s him into 3rd or DH.

Urena or Smith Jr. could be used I’m exchange for any sort of pitching depth (SP flier, bullpen help, etc.)

I’m thinking out loud here.
