Check out Avery on Spittin' Chiclets and the 'day in the life of' video he just did with Paul Bissonnette. He's actually hilarious in an ultra-dry, ultra-cocky sort of way.

Apparently no supplemental discipline for DeBrusk. Shocker.

Kadri getting an in-person hearing. He’s gone for the rest of the series.

I'm worried about this as well. Nylander is really going to have to step up now and I don't have much faith in that anymore.

I said that if the officiating was reasonably sane - accounting for the usual playoff laxity - we’d be alright. Didn’t expect this but perhaps the shock of it all will result in a bit of a swing the other way in Game 3, which would help us.

A more conspiratorially minded guy might suggest the league gave the green light to the refs to let the Bruins run around to generate some interest and to keep the Bruins on track now that it looks like Tampa might falter.

In a completely serious light, I don’t believe for a moment that - regardless of the result - Debrusk wasn’t targeting Knads’ knee and wasn’t trying to push Patty into the stanchion. Knads would’ve been better just to grab Debrusk rather than crosscheck him but at some point there has to be some respect.

My gawd, for a huge guy, Goat gets pushed around and knocked off his feet a lot.

I hope Willy Nilly will finally get the message that cuteness kills. That goal was the back breaker.

Poor Muzzin. Doesn’t deserve the night he had. Though he may have struck a big blow in our favour if Krug is scrambled. He’s a huge part of their game and especially their PP. I don’t usually hope for guys to have concussions but you can’t deny it would be a bonus.

Yeah, they need to shit or get off the pot. Call it so it’s a skill game but allow body contact and police the follow up shit. Or let the chimps loose again and live with the class action lawsuits. I remember the Bruins calming right the fuck down once Orr busted Lucy’s nose.

It was more of a "Heiskanen dick-slapping the Preds joke" but sure, whatever floats your boat, chickpee. Out of curiosity, is it because you piss sitting down or is that your favourite beverage, like President Donny Two Scoops? Maybe both?

Claw, I saw Debrusk take a look before bodies crossed sight lines on his hit. I think he was look to destroy him with a turned head. Oh, didn't know he was there. He was looking for the big hit, you can see how he tucks the shoulder for a collision, but I don't know that he was looking for the knee. I'm not putting $ on it, but while Debrusk had bad intentions, they were different bad intentions.

Well, here's the deal.

I don't care about intent, I care about what happened. I've yet to see anyone consistently blame the puck carrier/victim of a knee or hit from behind (in any official NHL capacity at least), so I'm not sure why DeBrusk isn't guilty of a knee on knee hit and a questionable hit on Marleau?

Kadri was retaliating to a borderline play on a 20 year, respected veteran. I guarantee his feet are held to the flames well past the 5 + game he already has. I suspect he sees at least 3 games for the cross check, and it could be more.

I find that quite one sided and inconsistent. Personal bias or not.

Parros is even more mush-headed these days than Marc Savard if that happens, stoney. On the bright side, maybe Krug is feeling equally as mush-headed at the moment so that's something.

I have no desire to see a guy hurt/concussed. I know that gains an edge, but I genuinely don't like seeing guys get hurt.

But, that one was a clean play, so that's part of the game.

Yeah, Muzzin could't exactly predict that Krug's bucket would pop off that easily before hitting the boards. The result was worse but the intent was a damn sight better than what Pastrnak pulled in the first period.

They're already becoming a bit rarer. I enjoy watching skilled players do their thing but there's room in the game for good clean checks or even a quality hip check (I haven't seen one of those in ages).

I’ve witnessed guys squatting over urinals, but never considered getting in that game. A lot of splashback off the steel ones in particular.

Interesting. We’ve got a little stool for our feet that makes shitting a breeze. Presumed the whole design of dicks was evolution’s way of saying “stand and spray” but I’m all about ass health. Maybe I’ll give it a try.

Meier and Hanson are getting absolutely roasted from every angle. Now former Director of Officiating Bryan Lewis:

Bryan Lewis is what you’d call “old school” when it comes to playoff hockey.

As a former NHL referee and director officiating, who worked more than 1,000 games and nine Stanley Cup finals, Lewis was a big believer in letting the players play. He coined the term “GNC” (good non-call) and would rather hand out a “one-minute penalty” (the term he used for issuing a warning) than potentially change the outcome of a game by putting a player in the box. No wonder he was often accused of “putting away his whistle.”

That being said, even Lewis thought the referees in Saturday night’s Bruins-Leafs game could have called more penalties. Like, a lot more.

“Eventually, you have to draw a line in the sand,” Lewis, who retired in 2000, said in a phone interview on Sunday. “I don’t know if that kicked in last night. I think the officials could have done a better job for the style of game that was presented to them. But that’s not rocket science.

“Those same officials are going to show up in another series. Do we want them officiating in the same manner? Perhaps no. It doesn’t take a series supervisor to know you didn’t do good enough.”

There were a combined nine penalties called in Boston’s 4-1 win in Game 2 — six more than were called in Toronto’s 4-1 win in Game 1. Based on the unofficial referees commenting on social media, there should have been a lot more, particularly against the Bruins.

There was the high-stick on John Tavares; the elbow from Jake DeBrusk that bloodied Travis Dermott; and the knee-on-knee hit that DeBrusk delivered on Nazem Kadri. All of them went uncalled, as referees Trevor Hanson and Brad Meier turned a blind eye and let the players mete out justice on their own.

In the process, they let the violence escalate. And made an embarrassment of a league that is supposedly concerned about a player’s safety.

So when Kadri cross-checked DeBrusk in the face as a retaliation for another questionable hit on Patrick Marleau that went uncalled, it was the result of a player who’s frustrations had boiled over. It was inexcusable. But at the same time, can you blame him? The referees had let the game get out of hand. If they weren’t going to do anything, then Kadri had little choice but to take matters into their own hands.

“You get to a point in a referee’s mind where you don’t know what looks bad anymore,” said Lewis. “If you let something go at one end, then you’re saying to yourself, ‘well, I have to let it go at the other end.’ And you get mentally to the point where you have a hard time drawing a line in the sand. You get yourself stuck in quicksand on an ice surface that you really don’t like.

Lewis says exactly what I did last night. When the refs are fucking over a player all night, eventually he's going to blow up and do something stupid:

“For a player to take the law into his own hands, those things have to be called (earlier). You have to identify the style of play that’s being played by the two hockey clubs and then you have to react to that. I don’t know that the reaction was there.”

I've never seen an officiating job so widely admonished before.

With Kerry Fraser, at least it was one blown call, not an entire night where he decided to make up his own rules. The only thing I can think of that's similar is Eric Gregg's strike zone in the 1997 NLCS:

You know what, it’s fun just having a team IN the playoffs so I can complain about these things. But you do you, sailor.
