Crazy talk. They are one signature away from having an amazing young core of forwards locked up for 5 or more years. They don’t have a single albatross contract greater than one year and the best defensive group we have seen since McCabe, Kaberle and Kubina. Aaaaaannnnddd a handful of young prospects who can play.

So, Gardiner chose Carolina. They must have a trade in the works

Slavin - Hamilton
Gardiner - Pesce
TVR - Faulk
Forsling - Fleury

I'm not sure how fucked his back is but that's a great deal honestly. I would've easily taken him back at that price.

Maybe when Gardiner plays in Toronto the big screen can show his top 10 backhanded clearing attempts.

I don't begrudge anyone trying to get paid. I don't think Marner's selfish, but his asks are delusional, and his camp's desire to sooth his Dad's ego is going to see him playing somewhere else. Even what Dubas is offering is absurd, that it's being rejected is a sign this thing might end with a trade.

Yeah I think that's become clear at this point. Nylander deal I was actually fine with tbh cause I'm pretty confident that by the end of this year he'll be worth more than the deal, but the Matthews deal was shocking to me and the idea of Marner getting 11M is disgusting. Sad that we have a guy like Pridham and still get bent over, going to be even sadder when guys like Point and Rantanen get like 2M less AAV with term (and Aho is getting sub 9).

I’m not sure we can say much at all about that just yet. Pretty much every single GM in the league with an elite RFA is in the same boat. If they don’t want to sign, what do you do?

He isn't even asking for real life money. Sebastian Aho is 95% of the player Marner is and he took $8.4 million on a five year deal via an offer sheet, which you would assume would make him a bit overpaid. Marner asking for $10+ million on a three year contract is absolutely nonsensical.

I have no idea how you solve this situation. I wouldn't be sad if this greedy pussy never got to play for the Leafs again.

Signed Tavares to $11 million a year and then he bumps Mariner's stats which makes him more expensive to retain.

I watched the full video on the ride home.

O's one of us alright and I definitely agree. When McKenzie's the source, you know it's not bullshit and even $11 x 7 or $11 x 8 is an overpayment.

There are probably going to be some uncomfortable moments any time Dreger passes by the OverDrive crew at TSN, with Ferris's hand still up his ass.

The fans and media have turned on him. Part of me hopes he sits for the season just so this shit stops happening.

How’s the Laine/Point situations looking?

If it is true he turned down 7 x 11m, I'd say I've seen enough myself. It's ok to go after max money at the given opportunities, but now you're missing camp to do it.

With LTIR they're around 9.816 in space open. That includes Hyman and Dermott though so I don't know what they're planning.

Are you assuming a 23-man roster? Babs said today they might be as low as 20, depending.

Rumour is that it was offered back in June. I'm not sure who I'm disappointed in more, Marner or Dubas. Actually I do but I'm still very disappointed in Dubas for offering that

I thought I read something about Winnipeg offering Laine a bridge at < $6 AAV. If that's true, that's...uh...something. I'm guessing they don't think he's better than Matthews now.

My problem is though that as good as he's been he doesn't deserve to be the highest paid winger in the league. His camp also legitimately seems to believe that he's as good as if not better than Matthews, and there seems to be some major inferiority complex there. Personally I don't like to see that rewarded but that's just me.

I agree with you about the angle his camp are taking. And I’ve said I think it’s nuts to make him the highest paid winger right now. But, I think over the term of that deal you likely see him produce at a top 5 or 10 level but he won’t be the highest paid guy for long. It ain’t perfect but this RFA class are determined to stretch the limits.
