I hope Cherrington is eager to pick up the Jays scraps. So eager he'll actually pay to get them. Maybe they need a Drury or Fisher or something.

Not surprising they let him go, fucking useless. Use your prospects to go get Archer and Price, maybe even Happ. All those guys should be moved for third rate prospects and would make our pitching just as bad as last year, but durable.

What's the point of giving up stuff to be just as bad as last year? How does that help?

Nobody is giving up anything useful for David Price at this point. He's becoming fragile and still owed 90M the next three seasons.

Jays close to signing Japanese starting pitcher Shun Yamaguchi to 2 year 6m deal. Not confirmed but very close, apparently. Has experience as a starter and reliever. Throws a forkball.

It's cheap enough that if he's only just a mid innings reliever it's good value. He probably doesn't move the needle much. Never know how players will transition across leagues until they start playing though.

Starting rotation, as of right now, is incredibly mediocre. Which is an improvement.

Anderson, Roark, Yamaguchi, Borucki, and Thornton. They've qualified but have not yet signed Shoemaker. Anderson, Roark, and Yamaguchi have all been described as back-end starters. Thornton and Borucki basically profile as that. Shoemaker is more of a mid-rotation guy but can't stay healthy.

And then figuring out what else these teams are going to give up to get away from these contracts. Same as FA as teams have become much cheaper in spending, teams aren't just eager to eat huge cap dumps. For the Sox to move Price they're going to have to attach some value with that boat anchor. The common rumour with them is kicking in Benetendi or something along those lines. Not sure how eager they are to do that, but they're the ones desperate to get under the luxury tax.

Couple Blue Jays news.

They hired Shane Farrell as amateur scouting director. That's John's son, for those keeping track at home.

On a much more fun note, Jays are said to have made competitive offers on Ryu and EE. Decent chance EE comes back, but Ryu is a wild card. Honestly, if they brought EE back, I'd be thrilled.

The only issue if they do that is ee and tellez play the same position. I know tellez hasn't done enough to warrant the protection but it would be weird to give up on him. Unless they actually plan on having tellez play in the field.

Signed Travis Shaw. Maybe to play 1st? Would much rather have him as the utility guy than Drury. No idea of this signals anything about EE.

I would assume they split DH/1B. I know they don't wanna mess up positional flex and to occupy the spot with guys who aren't versatile enough. Tellez stinks though. It'd just be nice to have Eddie back. He can still mash.

He plays 3B, 2B and 1B. I bet he could also play LF or RF if need be. I don't know if it means anything for EE. I bet it does, but maybe not.

I didn't want to see Edwin play first a decade ago and not super excited to see him there moving forward either heh. Tellez has been average but he hasn't had a full season of at bats yet. Would be dumb to give up on him.

Ryu to Jays, so that will end Price to Toronto.

Seems odd that they won't give 29 year old Stro a deal for 20M per year, but they will to 32 year old Ryu.

They didn’t like Stroman on a personal level.

Happy they finally are spending money. Don’t mind that contract either. Good chance he doesn’t even play two full seasons given his injury history.

I just think it's unfortunate, you don't have to like each other, it's what's best for the team. Anyways, it is what it is. I'd say offseason moves are largely done now.

Holy shit. Luhnow and Hinch suspended for 1 year. Then the owner fires them. Astros lost their 1st and 2nd round picks for the next 2 drafts. Cora punishment to be handed out at a later date but expected to be huge as he was the ringleader.

Hoping for a lifetime ban for Cora. They banned Rose for gambling and the Braves gm for signing underage prospects for life. Cora orchestrated cheating on two teams in consecutive world series. How can they give him less if they only gave Luhnow and Hinch a year? They have to throw the book at someone.
