If this is going to be the going rate for top players, you can no longer afford to pay big money to support players.

As soon as I saw the deal I thought you have to pay Price, but the flip side is you can't spend the money they did on Alzner.

The PA is going to have to give the teams club options on the end of contracts. Maybe buyout options with no cap repercussions. Too many of these contracts are going to cripple teams.

People have been saying this for ages, but which teams have actually been crippled by a contract? So far it's been pretty easy to just trade bad contracts away at the cost of some picks.

I love Carey Price staying in Montreal. It ensures they'll be just good enough to remain mediocre.

Well as they become more common it will become a bigger problem. Only so many guaranteed contracts will be able to be traded. Sooner or later there won't be any teams that have space to take them on for a couple picks. Also think there's a big difference taking on a five/seven million dollar cap hit then a ten/twelve million cap hit. Non of those have been traded and I doubt any team will take one as long as the cap is stagnant.

It's funny, the Drouin trade was basically a lateral move now that Radulov is gone. Their situation in regards to skilled forwards is the same.

Not odd at all. Have a budding superstar who wants to get paid? The B's will happily move them out for an underwhelming return.

Boston is reportedly offering $6 million x 6 years to Pastrnak

I get it, they don't want to insult Marchand (for some reason) but lowballing the kid isn't doing them any favours.

Given the situation with Athanasiou, anyone still think Holland walks on water? He's worth Connor Brown money but Kenny has fucked his Cap up so badly he can't/won't pay him. The Wings can't afford to lose any prospect of his calibre.

People were saying the same things about Lou that they're now saying about Ken Holland. No one can keep making the playoffs for 25 straight years, or even ten straight years in the cap era.

If Detroit fires him I would take him in some sort of a senior executive type position with Shanny and Lou.

It's not about expecting them to make the playoffs, it's about making it more difficult on himself to do the one thing the organisation actually needs to do: keep its own young talent.
