I was shocked at the way Washington was able to shut down tampa in a game 7. They had their chances, but that 3rd period was turtling of epic proportions. Even the empty netter scored was an ugly goal. Tampa will be back next year though with some extra gusto. They're a good team.

I haven't been this pumped for a SC final in a while. 2 teams that haven't won 1 before. One's an expansion team. One has an elite player that hasn't gotten this far before. Good schtuff.

I'm still amazed that, in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Caps, Tampa lost 3 of 4 home games by margins of 2 goals, 4 goals, and 4 goals respectively. With a 3-2 series lead, they didn't score a single goal in Game 6 or 7. A legendary performance that will not be forgotten about any time soon.

One might also ask how WAS' defense was considered sooooooo much better than ours. They were coughing it up down low like Wade Redden when Gary came calling.

Nosek had all fucking day to tee up his goal. Probably didn't even need to one-time it. Both WAS' LD and the weak side forward were puck watching.

Basically, they come fast and hard and make simple, predictable, planned plays with the puck and away from it so the puck carrier doesn't have to look. The puck is ALWAYS going toward the net ASAP in the O-zone putting shit tonnes of pressure on the D all game long.

Their forecheck is basically set up so the F1 forces the puck in a direction, the F2 disrupts the breakout pass any way they can and the F3 is swooping in with speed to clean up the garbage while the F1 circles back to provide yet another layer.

Break outs are a simple play up the wall, a reverse using the C and a chip into the neutral zone. It's really simple hockey done fast.

If you sat down and watched a hockey movie, and it was about some expansion team that made it to the Stanley Cup Finals, you'd tell me this was a stupid movie and that shit would never happen in real life.

This is nuts. I want them to win though - so bad. For ONCE the average Joe will hit a goldmine with all those "haha I'm throwing $100 away" 500:1 bets on Vegas.

No shifts off is their bigger asset. Every team can play with lots of speed, reaction, good timing, anticipation...for ~40min. Every vegas game ive watched 40 min of that energy is a low amount for them. It might be simple, but its the truth.

51.83 in the playoffs and 51.5 in the regular season. Always use 5v5 score adjusted :crossarms:

It is that simple. Everything about a team of leftovers shouldn't be able to win a cup...unless they bust their asses.

If your best scorer is first on every 50-50 puck and your goalie is red hot, that is a road through the playoffs

i'm impressed Fleury almost got that OV shot. Marchessault has every right to be pissed with that cross check from Niskanen after the Tuch penalty.

Someone explain to me how several of their players are scoring at double the rate they've scored at in the past (over multiple seasons). How their former bottom pairing dmen are now top pairing ones.

Fleury makes sense to me. Hard work making teams work to win makes sense to me. Smith, Karlsson, McNabb, Schmidt (etc) do not.

Those defenders were ones that many people in the analytics community had targeted as being very, very effective in their limited roles. Schmidt, Miller and McNabb have all previously been talked about here as potential bargain options to get a top four defender. That entire backend is filled with mobile guys who can move the puck well, that feeds into the speed at which the team plays.

As for Karlsson, that looks to be just one wicked sh% bender.
