I can't say that Vegas isn't getting any looks but the Caps with better finish by far.

It'll be interesting to see who gets the Smythe if Washington wins. Kuznetsov has been a monster and has a pretty strong case being the leading scorer and all (3 assists and counting this game), but Ovi has also been very good and has the name recognition and feel good story attached to him.

Vegas officially at the smelly half-rotten pumpkin phase. Next year they're not making the playoffs.

McNabb, Reaves and Engelland started gooning it up at the end, Vegas is really frustrated. Reffing was a joke too, Oshie got the softest misconduct I've ever seen.

The refs do tend to let alot go in the playoffs. However once they do decide to lay down the hammer in terms of penalties, it's always at a bad time (ie later in the game) 1-2-3 strikes you're out is a philosophy they seem to have.

As much as I'm enjoying watching the Caps putting a screeching halt to the 'Cinderella story', I will say that I thought last night they definitely had luck on their side. Vegas had a ton of chances and finished the game with about 60% possession along with 70% of the 'high-danger' scoring chances. Pretty sure they hit like 4 posts and missed a bunch of gaping nets at various points as well; Fleury also laid an egg.

Ultimately though hockey is a cruel sport sometimes and as we all know it's a game of inches ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He's probably gonna play dirty to keep Tavares around. Perhaps even spill some of the inside dirt he has on Toronto :trump:

I love OV. Scores a ton and is built like a tank? I really don't get where the hate comes from. He's multi dimensional, he's a good leader, he's driven, plays the white way, etc etc. He's a friggin beaut.

I mean, i hated that time he ruined our Leo forever, but oh well.

Hard not to love the Russian Asshole's affair with the Cup that's been all over twitter. He is genuinely the happiest player I've ever seen.

Hopefully he's recovered by training camp.

More because he has a dirty streak in him that he's never had to answer for, becomes disinterested in playing defence, doesn't kill penalties and yet people still hero worship him into the best player in hockey. Which he isn't nor ever was. He's just a great sniper.

For the first 5/6 years post lockout you could have absolutely made a case that Ovechkin was the best player in hockey. I personally think it was Crosby, but they were neck and neck for a while, and to pretend otherwise is revisionist history, as is pigeon holing OV as just "a great sniper". The guy averaged over 50 assists for his first 6 seasons, and has always been one of the most physical players on the forecheck. As for killing penalties, there are a ton of great players who don't kill penalties, Sidney Crosby for instance has never averaged a minute of SHTOI/G in his career, and outside of two seasons has never really factored into the PK.

You are right, OV was great before this Cup run. It just further serves to solidify his legacy as one of the best forwards of all time.

Whenever a great player doesn't win a championship people create these false narratives to bring them down. Lebron couldn't carry a team before he went to Miami, KD was elite but lacked the killer instinct, Peyton Manning was an all time regular season QB but couldn't win when it counted, Alex Rodriguez only cared about himself and wasn't a winner like Jeter etc. etc. It's a lazy narrative.

What a fucking shitshow.

Say what you want about Erik Karlsson as a player but harassing his wife over the loss of their kid is just disgusting, no matter who is responsible for that shit.

Never forget this:

Melnyk left Biovail on June 30, 2007 following news that the US Securities and Exchange Commission planned to take legal action against him over "trading and reporting ownership positions in Biovail securities."[9]

In March, 2008, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued Melnyk and Biovail for accounting fraud. The SEC press release claims that Melnyk and other executives "repeatedly overstated earnings and hid losses in order to deceive investors and create the appearance of achieving earnings goals. When it ultimately became impossible to continue concealing the company's inability to meet its own earnings guidance, Biovail actively misled investors and analysts about the reasons for the company's poor performance." Biovail settled for $10 million US.[10]

In May 2011, Melnyk was banned from senior roles at public companies in Canada for five years and fined $565,000 by the Ontario Securities Commission. Melnyk also settled with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and agreed to pay a civil penalty of $150,000, in addition to $1 million previously paid to settle other claims with the SEC.[11]
