Hmm both guys are ~50 point scorers. Question is whether Galch is more likely to materially improve than Domi. One school of thought is that Galch has more seasons under his belt and therefore more failed opportunities to break out (and probably a lower likelihood of doing so in the future).

But I think Galch is more talented

An evenly less experienced center could get his shot to be the habs top 6 center. I keep forgetting how ypung Gal is. I guess with the amount of scrutiny hes been around he probably feels like hes 60.

I dont mind the deal in terms of value, but the positions of need have not been filled yet. Intrigued to see how the rest of their offseason plays out.

It's odd to go for a guy like Domi when you already have Gallagher, Shaw and Lehkonen in your top 9. Domi is the best playmaker of the group, he plays a different game, but that's still a lot of undersized grit.

Chayka: Coyotes envision Galchenyuk lining up at center
https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/1558553

"Our thesis on it is he has the ability (to play center) and we think that he has natural tendencies that lend itself to that," Chayka said in a conference call. "We feel, just based off of our research and what we've looked at, that he has the capacity to do it.

"I think having depth at that position and having players who can play that position is something that we desired in this trade. He's had success playing the center position. I don't think we'd make this trade if we didn't think he had the ability to play center."

Anyway, little tidbit. JD 55 hits, MD 49. Maybe we're both wrong.

The way friedman described it, the big thing that was confirmed was that Trotz was turning down the option that he was eligible for. With good reason. He wants to cash in for a bigger deal as he should. However cant he just negotiate another bigger deal with the Caps?

He did negotiate with them. They didn't give him what he wanted so he officially resigned

Hoffman to San Jose :donger: Sharks got him for a good price baggage aside. I'm sure none of the Sharks WAGS will want anything to do with his gf if he's still with that nutjob.

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Panthers have acquired forward Mike Hoffman and a 2018 seventh round pick from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Florida's 2019 second round pick, 2018 fourth round pick and 2018 5th round pick.

"Mike is a skilled, consistent and hard-working player who has proven himself to be a talented goal scorer in the NHL," said Tallon. "His speed, experience and offensive abilities will bolster our top-six group."

Hoffman, 28, appeared in all 82 of the Ottawa Senators regular season games, registering 56 points (22-34-56). The 6-foot, 181-pound native of Kitchener, Ontario, has produced 20-plus goals in each of his last four seasons, including a career-high 29 goals in 2015-16.

Over 342 career regular season NHL games with Ottawa (2011-12 to 2017-18), Hoffman has amassed 230 points (107-123-230) and has notched 14 points (7-7-14) over 25 career Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Prior to beginning his NHL career, Hoffman won the 2011 Calder Cup with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League. He produced 169 points (71-98-169) over 242 career AHL games. Hoffman was originally selected by Ottawa in the fifth round (130th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft.

If the Leafs don't land JT, SJS is the best option because than they won't be able to resign Jumbo who would be the Leafs second best case scenario this off-season.

Some nice work by Wilson. Turned Boedker, an average prospect, and a 6th+7th into $4M of cap space and a 2nd, 4th and 5th round pick.

Also don't forget, but San Jose is in on Kovalchuk as well.

I know the Leafs are deep on the wing, but this is one of the best wingers on the planet, and if you buy into the advanced stats one of the best forwards, period. If he isn't open to re-signing you have to think the price will be diminished as well.

At the very least, all of this tells me that the Isles feel/felt like JT leaving was/is a very real possibility. You don't completely revamp your front office and coaching staff like this before July 1st otherwise.
