Probably reclamation FA signings.

Forgot Lester has no compensation attached to him. Same goes for Miller.

17th overall. Except there's only a compensation round now, so the Pirates don't get the 17th pick, they get a pick in the comp round.

Well, that sucks. I guess I dreamt the whole thing where they weren't losing picks anymore.

If someone else signs Melky, Jays get that pick, so then that will be the trade off. Martin + pick for Melky + pick.

Naw, part of it is real. If a player gets dealt in his final season he loses the pick compensation. So if Martin was traded to the Pirates we wouldn't of had to give up a pick for him.

Right, though we still move down the board from 17th into the comp round right?

Unless the team that signed Melky had the 16th overall pick.

Also, Navarro has asked for a trade.

The Martin signing had an added benefit for the Blue Jays; it caught the attention of a few pitchers who have reached out to Anthopoulos since the deal was announced.

I'd just move him for the salary relief and sign Miller if that's the guy they want.

how is that a nightmare. his bat can play. he's a backup C(a poor one) but he could do that. he just doesn't want to cause he's in a contract year and there are never C available except for the guy we got who hit that well

I think it has more to do with the fact that he has never played 1st base in his life rather than it being a contract year. You usually have to be pretty tall to play 1st aswell. He's 5'9

Smoak, I believe is a good first baseman defensively. But I may be wrong on that.

Anyway, I like the idea of trading Navarro if he strengthens either the bullpen or the 2B situation. Kendrick would be sweet.

Navarro has value to shore up other holes, you keep Dickey and Navarro provides little value to the Jays. Lots of teams need catchers. Including Tampa Bay. Maybe Zobrist can be an option in a deal for Navarro.
