Nice to see Houston win. Built their team from the ground up and only a few years ago they were laughingstocks racking up 100+ losses.

Same with Cody Bellinger striking out 17 times in 29 PAs.

I would still like Yu Darvish in a Blue Jays uniform next year. Along with Otani.

Weren't the Jays on Darvish's no trade list?

It's pretty stupid because Yu would be admired in a multi-cultural and world class city like Toronto.

MLB Trade Rumours Top 50 FA Predictions

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/ ... tions.html

14. Jay Bruce – Blue Jays. Three years, $39MM. Bruce reached the Majors at age 21 with the Reds and hit 216 home runs in nine seasons before he was traded to the Mets at last year’s deadline. While with the Reds in 2010, Bruce signed a six-year, $51MM extension that included a club option for ’17. The Mets exercised that club option last winter, and ended up trading Bruce to the Indians in August. The left-handed slugger has endured ups and downs as a hitter, but he posted a 115 wRC+ with 69 home runs over the last two seasons despite a .317 OBP. Bruce has struggled against left-handed pitching, a weakness that has been exploited by opposing managers who have forced him to face a disproportionate amount of southpaws. Bruce has not generally been lauded for his right field defense since undergoing knee surgery a few years ago, but his metrics bounced back and were above average this year. Bruce turns 31 in April and has a shot at a four-year deal in the Josh Reddick vicinity. The Blue Jays, Orioles, Royals, Rockies, Cardinals, and Giants could be options if the Indians let him leave.

35. Eduardo Nunez – Blue Jays. Two years, $14MM. Nunez has long served as a multi-position bench piece, backing up big names for the Yankees for the first four years of his career. The Twins picked him up in 2014, and he worked his way into regular playing time in 2016. That earned a summer trade to the Giants, where he settled in at third base and played a career-high 141 games. The Giants shipped him to Boston last July, where he got most of his playing time at second base. Nunez carries a reputation as a subpar defender, possibly because he’s never been allowed to settle in at one position. He’s also proven fairly injury-prone, with DL stints nearly every year. Still, he’s a useful super-utility player who has hit .296/.332/.443 in his past 1,290 PAs. The 30-year-old should be able to find a two or even three-year deal.

44. Tony Watson – Blue Jays. Two years, $12MM. Watson, a 32-year-old lefty, is behind only Bryan Shaw in total games pitched from 2012-17. He spent his entire career with the Pirates before being traded to the Dodgers this year at the deadline. Since his rookie season, Watson has never posted an ERA over 3.38, despite middling peripheral stats. Though he hasn’t always been used as such, Watson is best deployed as a left-handed specialist.

None of those predictions are exciting, and other than Nunez I don't think the Jays should be interested given the likely cost and term.

Agreed, AZ. The Jays will either have an interesting offseason or an incredibly boring one. I really hope they make an effort to get younger and more athletic. Competent backup catcher, get rid of Morales, a super utility to competently play for Tulo, Travis, and JD, and another starter.

Ideally they somehow get Otani but every team in the league will be gunning for him.

That’s what I’m expecting as well. They’ll probably hope for better health and players stop their slide into terribleness (Tulo and Martin).

Martin has started the last two seasons so painfully slow. If he can somehow avoid injuries then I’m confident be average again. No fucking clue what to do about Tulo.

The freight train went off the rails when someone (AA, Rogers, who knows) went from home grown to acquisition mode. Yes we got Donaldson. The rest just looks awful in retrospect.

We don't have a home grown position player on the roster other than Pillar. (Not that we let any impact ones go)

We had some fun and flirted with some exciting games, but now it looks like a complete (ish) reset again. You can't look at Houston, Boston, NY and say this team is on the same plane or talent level. Those teams are built on a handful of their own players and are set to roll for 3-6 years. We are aging and without any depth to compete for a roster spot.

I understand ticket sales are good, but they would be wise to try and line up some equally exciting prospects with Bichette and Guerrero.

And I hate the idea of a "tank", especially in baseball. With the sheer amount of drafting and player movement, a properly run team should be competitive nearly every year. The Jays are middling at best.

I would prefer to be wrong and they get Sanchez back, a couple FAs and they start rolling.

If he's been below average the last two seasons it's been just barely.

It's time to sell the farm for a top shortstop right in their prime. We do it every 3 years or so.

They'll sign Mike Stanton (the first one), Ohka and Daisuke and wonder why they're back to playing in front of 18,000 people in May again.

Trade Donaldson, Sanchez, Stroman and Osuna for a massive haul. You suck next year too, but by 2019 With all the almost MLB ready prospects you acquire, you'll be ready to conquer with Borruero leading the way.

Roy Halladay decided to forego free agency to stay here. It felt like a giant fuck you to the Yankees and Red Sox when they were spending oodles of money and we were stuck with bargain basement FAs. In shitty years, you could always count on Roy every 5th day. He was a joy to watch.

Yanked from the internet.

Tim Raines once said to me: “When you are a player who comes into town and everybody takes notice at what you are doing and tries to stop you from doing what you do, and they can’t—and they can’t for a long time—then that is probably a Hall of Fame player.” That's Roy Halladay.

Halladay was supposed to work with the Blue Jays minor league pitchers (“There are enough guys to help with arms and elbows, I’m going to try and help a pitcher’s head.”) in 2016. Instead he wound up working with the Phillies.

This off season he wanted to work with Blue Jays minor leaguers. He applied -- yes Roy Halladay was made to apply for a job with the Blue Jays -- with the high performance committee.

And then the decision whether to hire him was kicked upstairs.

The Jays did not hire him. Instead, he was re-hired by the Phillies to work with their young pitchers.
