They will basically be competing against the Angels and Twins for WC2 but with a bit of underperformance and injuries from some other teams and things could go very different. It’s already a more fun team to watch.

Ohtani being outstanding at both is way more fun than him being an ace with a meh bat.

Though, I would have been fine with him discovering his power next season so that our path to the second wild card wasn't as crowded.

Me and a friend were having a discussion about me watching alot of baseball since the season started. She said the reason she doesn't watch baseball more is because there are "so many rules" that are "tough to understand". I scoffed it off and told her 90% of the time it's a battle between a pitcher and a hitter.

The Granderson thing happened tonight and I was scratching my head trying to figure out what the outcome will be from that play lol.

It's really cool man, I'm so glad I get to watch something like that.

Also, that Jays game ruling should have been runner at third out, everyone advances a base.

Lastly,

Randal Grichuk is trash.

Grichuk will be fine, his timing is off and he hasn't got into a rhythm yet, but he isn't this bad.

He's shitchuk right now. Cost the Jays the game today, along with shoddy umpiring.

It's not like he was the only guy who was awful at the plate last night. Plus, Sanchez seemed meh to me.

Sanchez got extremely lucky with that weird "fly" ball to Granderson as well. I really hope he isn't shitty Sanchez all season.

Martin had numerous opportunities to get guys in and managed a sacrifice but nothing else. Grichuk has been frustrating but, like AZ, I believe he'll get his timing down.

Can Pearce be the regular DH and Morales the situational bench bat?

That should have been no run scored. What a crap call. Though the Jays should have had the wherewithal to throw home and then to third and that should have been a double play because the White Sox just stopped.

I blame the Jays, or the Jays bench guys, for not completing the play just in case. I'm actually okay with the call, though. Jays should have been able to muster more than 4 runs. It's already a more successful start to the season than the last two years.

That's what I was thinking, that they should complete the play. It's why Rougned Odor's score counted in that Wild Card game. If he just stood there he'd have not been awarded a run. Oh well, whatever. Go kill Texas, it's all I want.

Also sucks to lose James Paxton, he's sick.

I like his bat, I like him as a person, but I'm getting really annoyed by Travis' poor range. That leg doesn't seem 100%.

Fuck we live in a weird world where a tragedy that destroyed twenty-nine families and numerous communities gets used to prop up how awesome sports are.
Also, let's keep this thread about Galchenyuk's on-ice performance, development and value and NOT bring in his personal life or race.

So Bautista has been turning down offers from teams because he wants to play for a championship-caliber team? This won't end well.

I was thinking the same thing. Really dumb play.

I don’t like that I’m pleasantly happy Morales got hurt (at least it was in the most painless way) but being able to get one of Pearce or Solarte in the line-up us surprisingly key.

I get what you’re saying, but I LOVE heat and humidity. 30°C with 90% humidity? Fuck it let’s go for a run.

Heading to Jamaica in July so I will put this to the test! Hope I have room for my baseball pants.

Just never seen so many balaclavas before that’s all.

Fangraphs - Aaron Sanchez Figured Something Out

Sanchez made some changes to his...changeup, and it looks good. In the article Jeff Sullivan draws comparisons on the changeup to Zack Greinke, King Felix, and Carlos Carrasco.

Started watching in the bottom of the 8th, saw Sanchez blow a no-hitter, and turned off the tv at 1-1 with guys on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out. Now I see the Jays are up 2-1.

Probably best I no longer tune in.

Couple ticks off the velocity for that level of control. I really hope he understands location at 91 is better than 2-0 counts at 94

It seems like he does. I forget who but he struck one guy out with a BP fastball. Totally crossed the batter up.

Adding a change-up out of nowhere, and the command he has of it, is fantastic.

I liked Yangervis Solarte before he was acquired. Ready an article a year or two ago about the passing of his wife and his life around that and I really made me cheer for him. As a player liked his versatility. Blown away with how good he's been this early in the season. Really making up for the guys that are currently cold.

Didn't really add the changeup out of nowhere. He used it, albiet very rarely, in the past. I guess issues with the curveball/blisters has caused him to try and develop it a bit. He's done a good job of that. Still doesn't control it to the same level as the fastball, but it's a good sign.

Susf. I wouldn't bet on Mark Reynolds for anything but a minor league deal either. He's twice hit under 200 over a full season and has never provided any value in the field. Last season he was worth 0.9bWAR and 0.8 fWAR. He's also 34.

God knows they need Donaldson if they hope to have any sort of success, but at least for my own viewing sanity, it's nice not to have to watch AAA-calibre bats having to replace a starter when they're hurt.

Solarte is very much a super utility who, at best, cant actually field all the well but can hit. He’s the dream upgrade over Goins who wasn’t even good defensively by the end of last season.

Hernandez making a push for Grichuk to sit more.

Hernandez is looking like he can put it all together and be another power bat.

I really like this team with Hernandez. Replace Morales at bats with a combination of Solarte, Hernandez, Pearce, and Granderson and that’s a tonne of potential. Still have Grichuk and Travis to come around too.

Hernandez isn't all that different from Grichuk in that he offers plus defense and plus power, but has yet to demonstrate the ability to cut down the K's to maximize the power stroke.

Lookit that week. Call him up already. Bichette too.

Bichette through 9 AA games:

.350, .422 OBP, .872 OPS 5 BB 9 SO

Guerrero through 9 games:

.361 .419 OBP, 1.057 OPS 2 HR 12 RBI 5 BB 4 SO he also has four doubles in that time.

Their time is now.
