Borgman did better in the NHL yes. I actually liked Rosen more in training camp, but he looked bad in the games he played once the season started. Plus Borg looked pretty good until his injury in the AHL

I was just kidding, but to answer your question I said that what I had read was that Rosen wasn't doing that well at the AHL level. I didn't really start watching games until the playoffs.

I wonder who walked away from who. An AHL deal must be very similar to a DEL deal no?

Fair enough. I've seen conflicting things, but from what I've gathered he's been really good down the stretch/playoffs and Keefe singled him out for playing well. Will be interesting to see how he does next year and if he can make the jump

With the way Keefe goes on about Moore he may have a chance to stick with the Leafs next year.

I dunno about that. He looked pretty good when I saw the Marlies but I don't think he's quite there yet. He's also up against more experienced guys like Aaltonen and Lindholm for C spots.

The DEL is a step (or more) down in quality. Maybe he just wants to kick back and see the world a little. Or has a thing for German broads.

Ryane Clowe named head coach of the Growlers.

"Ryane brings two years of working on John Hynes' staff in New Jersey in combination with his deep roots in Newfoundland to the position," Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas said in a statement. "His experience and connection with the area, along with the potential he has shown in coaching, make Ryane the best fit for our program."

It was a decision that he and his newly wed wife made before the season concluded because they wanted to travel the world and start a new adventure.

Aaltonen no longer in the picture.

All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised given how management talks about him.

I remember when people were pissed that we got Kapanen over Pouliot in the Kessel deal. Fast forward a few years later and Pouliot doesn't even get a QO from the shitty Nucks.

Good times.

Marlies signed a bunch of people: https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/toro ... d-growlers

Imagine at least a few will start with the Growlers.

First player that catches my eye (mainly because he's the only name I recognize) is Hudson Elynuik. He's a bit of a project, but I'm surprised the canes let him go.

Word is Dzerkiels figures he’s better than riding the bus in the ECHL. Took a contract in the KHL until his deal with us runs out. May or may not have thrown shade at Dubas depending on who is interpreting an interview he gave in Russian.

Meh. Good luck, son.

So, is Sandin going to be a Marlie this year?

I thought he was most likely going to Sweden? Read something about him practicing over there. Having him with the Marlies would be nice though the Marlies blue line is quite crowded at the moment.

Grooming a Sandin-Liljegren pairing however.... :danson:

It's been mentioned that going back to Rogle was the plan but that was before the rookie tournament, development camp, his showing in the preseason here and with Rogle. He's looked good and the Marlies just came off a season where Timmy played as an 18 year old and had his usage monitored closely. Seems like the organization has shown they can do it and value control of the development process. It'll be interesting to see what happens. There's quite a few guys on that left side though—Marincin, Rosen, Borgman, and Nielsen. I'm not sure where he fits unless some of those guys are gone (either with the Leafs in the press box or with the Growlers in Nielsen's case).

It's a weird time for the early 90s generation. We were super young and all of a sudden we're not anymore.

I just hope that it’s more on the backs of Brooks, Bracco, Timashov, Lilly, and possibly Sandin rather than LoVerde, Mueller, Cracknell and the likes. Much less offensive firepower coming from legitimate prospects than in the past few years. This is going to be an important season for a bunch of those guys.

Damn. Hope they get that sorted.

Apparently Sandin is looking pretty good. He sounds a bit like Dermott: mobile, smart and able to do a lot of stuff well but not likely to blow you away with his top end offensive output. Fine by me. Those are the guys that hold your D together.

Also reading a lot of consternation about Timmeh not tearing up the AHL just yet. But, as I understand it, they’ve graduated him from the bottom pairing to the top pairing over the summer. He’s probably just trying to make sure he doesn’t show up in too many of the postgame teaching videos of them getting scored on. Important to remember that he’s a very offensively minded player who lost some development time in his draft year but who’s still only 19 and will be 19 for basically this whole season. He’s learning to defend the best players in the second best league in the world. As I recall, his production was pretty damned good last year when his age was factored in. I won’t be ringing any alarm bells until there’s no development apparent by mid-season.

People are complaining about Liljegren? He's scoring at a 50 pt pace while playing key defensive minutes.

Rosen is also a point per game, Keefe has high praise for him:

“I just find when you’re playing the bigger ice, a lot of times you’ll skate the puck to the outside and when you have the type of speed that (Rosen) does you can escape a lot of pressure,” Keefe explained. “When you do that on the smaller ice in North America, you run out of space real quick. As he learned to navigate the ice a bit better it opened up the game defensively for him in terms of distributing the puck to the forwards, in terms of using his speed in the right areas of the ice."

“And then, just in terms of how we want to defend, with his skillset and his speed it really lends itself to being a great defenceman for us with real tight gaps, making it hard on the opponent. He doesn’t have to rely on physicality and strength necessarily. He can utilize his speed to be on top of guys and that makes life a lot easier for him.”

This isn’t just a 2018-2019 development, though. Were his circumstances different — namely, if he were a right-handed shot or if his contract were one-way instead of two — Rosen may already have progressed to the NHL.

Keefe credits him for taking a second consecutive demotion in stride. Rosen was recruited by several NHL teams two summers ago. Promises were made of a real NHL opportunity in Toronto.

“It’s only his second year in North America and he’s obviously a very high-end skilled player with a great brain and a great skill set,” Overhardt said. “He’s certainly today’s NHL defenceman: he skates, he retrieves pucks, he moves pucks, he can really shoot a puck. He knows it’s just a matter of time. And with all due respect to the players who are on Toronto’s roster, a lot of them have been there for a while and they’ve earned the right to be there. With injuries or a possible roster move by management, he’ll get an opportunity."

To be fair, a lot of the complaints go back to camp and prior to the productive little run he’s had in the past couple of weeks. Of course I know that so much of the negative stuff like that in comments sections is trolling for traffic. Either way, I’m with you. I don’t see what the worry/hurry is about. He’s still a pup and I’m glad we’re in a position to not have to develop him in the NHL, which has fucked up a lot of young D with great offensive instincts who then lose their confidence when NHL guys take their favourite shot away, blow by them and make them feel tiny in the corners.

The “overripe” thing goes double for defencemen, IMO.

Still early in the season, but Grundstrom is quietly PPG through 11GP. We could use some shittyness in the lineup now and again. Hope he keeps up the production. Would rather play a guy like him than Ennis, if he can fit in money-wise.

Ian Scott has more ES goals than Patrick Laine.

Andrew Nielsen for Morgan Klimchuk. Once upon a time, that would’ve been a steal. Now Klimchuk looks like a guy who was rightly taken after Freddie Goat.

Does Scott play on a super stacked team?
