It's not that they are hating on the team, hard to hate anything on this team.

I'll check it. Good fun. I don't read a lot of hockey related stuff on there. It's largely a way to keep track of what authors, academics and journos I'm interested in are saying.

You mean it's not intended to be a means of reaching out for faster support or find out if there's a service disruption?

Eemeli Räsänen seems to be having a good season thus far. 14 pts in 17 games, +3. If he can improve skating he could have some nice potential.

9 GP, 5 G, 6 A, 11 PTS so far in his second pro season.

I wonder if has some real potential. He didn't make the OHL until he was 19 years old in 14/15. He was even still playing midget when he was 17, which is insane. Connor Brown was considered a late bloomer because he didn't make the OHL until he was 17, but he still played Junior A when he was 16.

He seems like the type of guy that should have gone to college. If he was in his third year of college hockey right now he'd probably look like a pretty good UDFA. He's currently on an AHL contract, so if he keeps this up the rest of the league will start sniffing around him.

Sparks leads the AHL in GAA, save percentage and wins. Ben Smith and Marincin are the AHL all stars. Kapanen is an NHL player as we know and Johnson is looking good.

Wish we could give him a chance at some point, doesn't seem likely though. Don't think he is waiver exempt next year and Soshnikov, Aaltonen, Leivo and Kapanen will be vying for spots as it is. Barring any trades, there will only be 2 winger spots open most likely (Leo and JVR), and even then the Leafs could very well make a trade or sign more players. Will also have to replace Bozak and Moore I assume, though out of those aforementioned guys only Aaltonen plays C.

Defence is solid but unspectacular. Dermott and Rosen have been good and bad, more difficult to tell with defencemen.

The Leafs are going to have to make a trade at some point. They have a clear need on defense, and a massive surplus of offensive forwards in the system.

Johnson might have one more season, depends if they count his AHL playoff run as a season or not. If they do then he's out of time, if not then he should have one more season.

The clear need on defence is an interest to me. I wonder if every fan base feels the same way, and outside of 5-6 teams with an elite defender there is not much available. I see lots of trade proposals for upgrades, but in most cases, it is lots to give up for minor upgrades. There are few guys who might be available and you’d have to use Reilly or Gardiner +++++++ to get it.

I do wonder what it would cost for Weber from Montreal.

I think our best bet is to trade for a defender who is close to the NHL like Rasmus Andersson from Calgary. Promising forward prospect for promising d prospect.

Johnsson just got a nice piece about him in the Athletic. Keefe is high on him and he's praised as a complete player, we might see him as a Komorov replacement next season. Maybe a better description would be a Swedish Connor Brown?

I'm really routing for Johnsson, but something about his puckhandling always feels on edge, like he skates with his head down and directly into trolly tracks constantly. Admittedly, I haven't seen him much this year.

I don't think Soshnikov, despite liking him, is anywhere near as good as Leo is defensively. Komarov's offense has been garbage this year but he makes smart plays with the puck all over the ice, meanwhile I see Sosh as more of a shoot first type guy who doesn't bring that same versatility. Maybe that's just because he was the self-designated finisher on that fourth line and was carrying the load by himself last year. We'll see, but I don't really think Sosh can play higher in the lineup than the fourth line and I don't know that I'd trust him to play against other team's top lines.

Just my thoughts anyways.

I dunno, he was relied upon defensively pretty heavily in the AHL (moose correct me if I'm wrong), and he's a good PKer. I know PKing doesn't necessarily mean good 5v5 defense (see Polak, Roman) but I think his instincts are there and he is aggressive and engaged enough. Komarov's defensive contributions will be hard to replace, but he is just not what he used to be and will be expensive for what he brings. I just hope he doesn't go to a rival, that would suck.

Made the same comparison myself. I don't believe he possesses the same level of puck skills or shooting ability (still good though) of Brown Town, but from what I've seen he's got all his other stuff. Reads plays well, good iq, great engine.

Marlies on a record 7 game roll. Not bad.

Nice to see Johnsson improving his production year-on-year. But, it's even better to read reports of him being a bit of a Swiss Army Knife. He could nicely onto the kind of 4th line we seem to be aiming for (skilled, but still able to do some plumbing work). Aaltonen has also been good from what I've read.

Among the forwards, I'm most intrigued by Marchment: undrafted and already 22, but producing and he's big. Can't imagine a Marchment playing like a pussy so fingers crossed he's got the skill and skating to help the Leafs some day. I don't mind the overall skilled identity that they're going for with this club but I don't think they want to be totally bereft of cuntiness. That's not how I read Babs at all. And Shanahan knows all about having a foot in both camps (not to put Marchment anywhere near Shanahan's category, BTW)

Keefe says the strength of their team is defense and goaltending, so let's hope that translates to the big club going forward. Both Sparks and Pickard have posted great Sv% numbers. McBackup loses us points so let's hope one of them can make the jump soon as it could be the difference for a bubble team.

Dermott is playing a lot of minutes and acquitting himself well, but not producing offensively as he did last year. Lil' Green is producing .5PPG, which ain't too shabby for a just-drafted rookie. No doubt he's being sheltered a bit. Valiev has fallen off the map by the looks of things. Though someone who watches the Marlies could clear that up.

Anyway, nice to read that the farm team is doing its job. I'm fully expecting another big turnover on the Leafs next year as I think they'll move on from both Bozak and Moore. Not certain about Komarov or JVR. Both provide things we don't have a lot of elsewhere. But, with Marleau able to step in and play some C (and with Babs already using wingers to take draws on most of his lines depending on the situation) Bozak's day has come and gone. I think Moore is spent. He's used to be consistently noticeable even on the 4th line but he's just holding a place out there most of the time these days.

Speak of the devil, he's going for knee surgery. Fuck...

Apparently surgery was successful and he'll be out about 4-6 weeks. Good news? Who knows? Hopefully it's a one-time deal.

Considering this is the kind of shit that keeps players out for seasons and fucks up their careers, a 4-6 week timeline is great news.

From what I've read Valiev has had multiple injuries this season and been asked to play a shutdown role when he has been playing.

Of course. I just didn't know much about the injury or the surgery. Consensus seems to be this is a good outcome and his prognosis is good. Preaching to the choir, but I really like him.

Right. That would explain the GP. I've barely had time to follow the Leafs, let alone the Marlies.

I can't even track down a sniff of a marlies strem this year. Even their official radio link is down. One of the better matchups aswell. Was interested to see Mitchell Stephens. Guess I'm watchin tfc.

He hasn't really 'failed' yet. Mostly because Freddie plays every game

Pickard and Sparks both playing great. Maybe Edmonton would like one.

Him with Sparks the best 1-2 in the AHL right now. Pikard would obviously get the first call up since Sparks requires waivers to go back down. But also Pikard has more experience in the nhl aswell as the tendy backup lifestyle.

Their save percentage is obviously good. What I'm more impressed/interested by is the gaa. 1.54 for Sparks and 1.90 for Pikard. Leading into this year I knew the marlies wouldn't have much issue scoring goals, but defense and playing with structure is one thing I wasn't so sure about.
